Apologies for absence but have had issues - now the Z Girl has some.

  1. Hi fellow Zedophiles
Sorry for the absence but have been sort of offline with "dances with cancers" since June last year. Diagnosed with a myeloma down the right side of my face and after having a bunch of lymph nodes remove and 38 sessions of radiation that is pretty good. Still a way to go but getting there. Last CT scan picked up a mass down between kidney and spine. A NH lymphoma so now doing the chemo thing. That id going fairly well thankfully.
Now the REAL problem!!! My '92 Z32TT with 115K on the clock started nicely as usual at the RSL and travelled about 5 metres and died. Turned over fine, no go though. Had the girl towed on Monday to a Z wise shop and the fuel pump was fried. That is now replaced and is receiving power but not going back to ground. It appears when the fuel pump went West it took out something downline in the electrics with it.
Does anyone have knowledge of known up or downline failures associated with a fuel pump going sour?
The girl has been a nice place to be in the ugly round of hospital and doctor/pathology visits and I miss her badly
If it wasn't for my wonderful wife, kids and partners who have been flying in and the work of Katayamasan that is normally parked in the garage, I would have probably chucked it in.

Best all and apologies for coming back with a need.

ps: Rob260 rocks - he was a massive amount of assistance and material to me before this all fell to bits. Ta mate!

Yep, sounds like it could be FPCU related. Bypassing it isn't a hard job.

Hey mate, hope you kick the melanoma. I don't have any tech advice but I just wanted to say you've got a pretty awesome attitude about the whole thing!

    Best of luck.

Sincere Best Wishes for a speedy recovery Dear Fellow Z Owner.
Stay Positive(and know that you have many Prayers being said on your behalf).
I look forward to you becoming "Old & Annoying", just like me!

  6. Thanks so much. Sitting in a comfy chair last Tuesday while they pumped the go juice into me I looked around the room. I really don't have much of a problem at all compared to some of the poor people. Best regards. Ron

  7. Thanks Lloyd.
i am already old and annoying and plan on becoming even more of both!
    All the best

Keep your chin up, Ron(otherwise, I might "come down and visit you"). The preceding SHOULD be viewed as a threat.:zlove:

  9. Heehee - I am Lloyd. It could be a bloody side worse and all I need right now is to get the girl back on the road. Should be shortly. New fuel pump in and thanks to this site bypass being temporarily done on the downline unit.
Just back for a major service and cooling system flush and we should be good to go - hopefully! I miss her not waiting in the garage.
The control unit seems to be available overseas but rob260 is chasing one down for me. Top bloke and disgracefully knowledgeable into the bargain. Could operate happily on the bypass but would rather not.
    Thanks again and best regards.

Hey MGR sorry to hear about you FPCU is playing up.

I think you are treading the right path in using the bypass as a temporary measure, while you sort the unit itself.

You could get a used controller from another TT either of these part numbers 17001-40P00 or 17001-40P01, but it might be on its way as well.

A new unit will be around $650 dollars landed I reckon.

You might want to consider trying to repair yours. Here is a link to the tech section. http://www.pexcom.com.au/z32cms/e107_images/FPCU Rebuild Tech.pdf

If you don't have the soldering skills, you could order the parts and get someone local to fit them.

Or for the price of postage I would be happy to do it for you.

  11. Thank you brisz. The unit fried itself and I am sourcing a replacement. The part numbers you have supplied have confirmed I am on track.
We have the time with the bypass but don't really want to leave it that way.
As for soldering skills, I am a bloody good Travel Agent. Neuropathy means I will do more soldering to myself than the part. Mrs MGR (Nanny?) hates it when I catch fire. Women are full of unreasonable little fears!
Old school but savvy sparky working on it says it is internally fried and no local rebuilds on the market, so will probably import.
Thanks again for the info and offer to assist. That's why I love this place and its people.
    Best regards

When a fella can't set himself on fire with out the Mrs getting in a tizz what is the world coming to.

One last suggestion so all the cards are on the table.

AshSpec makes an interesting unit that is designed to replace the OEM unit insides and offer enough capacity for two pumps, the idea is to retain the 3 speed TT pump control hanging off the OEM ECU (or A/M) when heading north of 600 RWHP.

But there is absolutely no reason why you couldn't use as as an OEM replacement that shouldn't fuse like the OEM unit has.

    http://www.ashspecz.com/shop/prodInfo2.php?prodID=19

They will send you and advance replacement unit with a $100 USD deposit that will be refunded when you send your old one back to the US.

Cost would be about $450 AU with postage.

    One more additional idea.

MickW did a write up a while ago detailing his complete automatic transmission system overhaul including the ATCU Automatic Transmission Control Unit.

He had it done through a company in Victoria called Injectronics, http://www.injectronics.com.au/ , they use Repco and Bursons as agents, I would imagine no fix no charge. They also have extensive test equipment to simulate in car operation.

MickW was only charged $150 (at "mates rates" 6 years ago.) for a comprehensive service, you can read over here if you are interested. http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1188633&highlight=auto#post1188633
