Buy the lights through Lamborghini and they cost a fair bit more than a zed does now.

Yep they put a strip of C/F across the top of the lights to cover the nissan stamp.

    :D

It's all good. We all learn this for the first time at some point ;) And it is an interesting fact and one that still get's me funny looks when I tell people.

Non-car people really can't get that a high priced supercar would use Nissan parts (or any other 3rd party parts for that matter)

Enter into a conversation about the fact that "why would they re-invent something that already works" and you've gone into nerd territory for them and they switch off.

    Meh.

I've learned my lesson. Polite BBQ conversation is for moaning about the public sector and Donald Trump apparently.

I would expect those Lambo owners would be buying up the 200 spec HID headlights because they obviously work. If you owned the Lambo you'd want the updated headlights, the cost would be easily justified on such an expensive car.

This thread needs quotes from an auto mag and pics. [IMG]

Obviously the guy who thought Zed headlights on a Lambo means a Zed is almost a Lambo gets it wrong (see here)

Probably not. You bin it hard enough to break a headlight you've got much more expensive issues to worry about.

The loss of pop-up headlights is what has gone wrong with the world.

I was thinking of starting a change.org petition to make pop-ups mandatory on all future sports/supercars :D

I did like the look of the sportscar with concealed headlights during day and pop-up higher set lights during night. As I understand it, the pop-up headlights are like a hook when a pedestrian jumps in front of a car. If you look at something like a 1990's Toyota Celica or a Ford Probe you see the obvious danger. But not as dangerous as those fishing rod holders that we see on some cars

The Porsche 928s4 frog eyes are probably OK because they fold backwards

Bugger pedestrians...popping up those headlights at speed greatly unsettled the rear end of the car. On a car like the diablo capable of over 300kph, popping those headlights up over 200 is like dropping an anchor over the nose.

    But they did look cool...

Yeah I'm not sure it was because of health and safety, or as you said, things like bull bars and rod holders and bike racks and and and would all be banned.

a "hook for pedestrians" I'm guessing wasn't the reason.

For high end cars, look at AndyMacs post for the probable reason.

For lower end sports cars, I'd be guessing it's more because they were complicated, often broke, and added weight while reducing engine bay space.

But, as AndyMac agreed, they did look cool.

    Oh so cool.

Only had them on 1 car. My Nissan 180sx. But man they were cool.

The 300ZX Z31 had them also of course. BUt they were so cool they had to go. The world can't handle a car that has "sleepy eyes" from factory.

(see how I brought this back on topic by talking about 300ZX headlights again :D)

Also the way the value is going for these cars, changing from original will significantly devalue your car.

There was a Japanese doco about the Japanese tuners/modders culture with Japanese cars, like Z32 and others.

    They had moved onto Lambos.

There was a scene where they were driving down the highway and waving at each other by opening and closing one of the scissor doors.

    So those guys..... yes posers.
