around 79-80 degrees is what mine used to sit at, manual tt with auto tubos and stock cooling system other than usual under plenum deletes. thats in wa with regular days in the high 30's after a bit of spirited driving, temps could creep to mid 90's, but come done as soon as you started driving sensibly again..........

Mine sits at 76°c but in summer sits between 76°c and 85°c and i got an undriven pulley not by choice.
Summer is here (thread dig) Don't know how all these high 70's temps are being achieved unless people are running without thermostats. I just bought the Tridon Hi Flow 77 degree thermostat. (They also offer a 71 degree version) So the OEM spec is 77 degrees (starts to open at 77 ?) That should mean any temp below 77 is achieved with a closed thermostat? Anyway, I want to say I have a stock cooling system, the current thermostat was only starting to open above 80, so I could never have a temp lower that when car was warmed up. But when I checked it in 100 degree water it wasn't fully opened. I wound the spring out and tried it again. It was now fully opened at 90. It starts to open at 76 now. I have a digital temperature gauge on kettle and a digital thermometer. This fiddled thermo put back in car for a test. Car warms up to 79 degrees and putting aircon on rises to 84 degrees. First time, for a long time, I am finding the AC being on only changed the temp by 5 degrees. If AC is making a huge difference (like 11 degrees ) then the thermostat may not be opening all the way. I decided to buy the HiFlow because it still opens as SPEC, but it is less of a restriction in the pipe. It should control temps better because it is less restrictive when fully open. PS, I think this is a cheaper than normal price.
I have a stock TT rad with an over and under drive pulley, and aluminium radiator air guide. Mine sits at 80-84°c with aircon on in 35°c heat outside. If i'm sitting in traffic for 30 mins + with aircon on in 35°c heat, the temps slowly rise to around 86°c, but then drop again to 80-84 once you get going again. With aircon off, temps always stay at 79-80°c.
$50 for a thermostat! It'd want to be pretty special :/ You're right cars shouldn't be operating under 77; I suspect those measurements are not being taken from the ECU. Measuring from the wrong location (radiator, block, possibly the upper pipe) will yield the wrong information...
or mis-calibrated sensor, I spent ages thinking my engine had a nismo stat in it as ECU talk read ~72 most of the time then when I did a service realised the stat was stock. Swapped a spare sensor in and reads 78-80 now.
Actually that's a really good point, sensor gets old, more resistance, ECU thinks car is running colder than it is
The below are in similar Tempteratures 30-40 both taken from November 98- AC present. Cluster front nose cone area Ran at 80-83 comfortably, would creep up to 86-87 in stop start traffic or similar after a spirited run then cool off. E85 No AC-less cluttered nose cone area. runs at 78-80 degrees comfortable 84-86 stop start or with a boost session. No idea if that's e85 showing difference or the fact I removed the thermo condenser and other stuff from infront of the radiator. Interesting difference anyway. Coolant is the same type, both measured on ECU talk interface.
