These pictures speak for themselves. This crash was apparently due to knock off wheels. One of the wheels failed causing a tire blow out, forcing him off the road and up the enbankment, where he flipped and ended up on his side.
Yeah 'wheel failure' is what you tell the police and insurance. Regardless, looks like the zed did pretty well to keep the driver safe after what it went through.

In my opinion he must have hit something to get that failure, which i'm sure happens to some knock off wheels. Good thing he is ok, i heard from couple of friends that him and others drive quite hectic around the mountains so who knows Mt nebo is not so much of a tricky road compared to mt glorious where I go every now and then. Believe it or not i've already embarrassed a couple of evo's doing a touge run on my z. Doing some run 2-3 times a week, let me know if anyone is keen around brisbane northside.
Looks like there will be a part out coming our way Must be life's way of telling you not to skimp on parts or go racing through the mountains - I guess the coppers will be looking at the skid patterns and will work it all out in the end Always sad to see the death of a Z though Will he do it all again....or learn from the experience is the real question
looking at the missing front bumper, caved in radiator, and aerodynamic shaping of the bonnet, appears to have hit a pole of some sorts. Was it wheel failure causing pole impact, or pole impact and other contributing factors causing wheel failure. Either way, wheel failure IS wheel failure. Very thin material rims too.
Or was speed itself really the major contributing factor here.... Certainly thin material on those rims but it still take a lot of forces to rip through that material and as the picture suggests it was not from metal fatigue (it is a clean cut) but from where the disc brake went through the rim suddenly (and stopped the rim) - which is a real big and sudden impact rather than wheel failure itself. With the P plate being visible in the window, statistics would say that speeding was involved as one of the factors .......(that is not me saying that - its stats!) Just hope there is something to learn from this as a P - Plater or there will be more part-outs to come from this lad in the future! Seen too many accidents in my life - least he is lucky enough to walk away and learn - seen lots of others killed with less damage to their car! Coppers are not stupid.......he will be lucky to not wear some fines as well :bash: JC :zlove:
One less slicktop about. Seems he likes to mix and match his wheels (and no doubt tyres as well). Given he was where he was, my bet is he lost control going much too quickly and the wheel got smashed after he left the road. Probably won't be his last write-off.
Not really, minor pot-holes and even fatigue are not just cracking these cheap rims, but cracking whole chunks out of the barrel or lip. Seeing far too many reports on this. Not saying he didn't lose control and then crack the rim, quite possible, it's just that these rims are getting worse by the month. I dunno, I guess if you can't afford decent brand rims, then stick to stock until you can would be my worldly wisdom.
Look at the first pic. Hood is fine. Guessing the tow truck driver was impatient and winched it from the wrong angle causing it to grind up on the edge of the road. Also, He was running different rims on one side or what?
By the looks of that, he's lost control gone straight into the ditch and due too the angle of the ditch walls he's hit a few hard rocks and then trying to still correct himself back up and out he's gone side up on the bending of that bank and flipped on edge. Hope he parts it out, depending on the seatbelts being chassis and not door mounted i might buy a few bits off it.
