S2 PTU Relocation

When I first got my car the S1 PTU was relocated under a vented nose panel. Eventually through corrosion from the weather there wasn't a very good connection anymore.

I ended up putting the PTU next to the Fuse box until a more permanent solution was found.

Yesterday at the Ormeau Techday in QLD, it gave me a few good ideas of were to mount my PTU.

I liked the idea of having it under the nose panel away from engine heat, but I disliked the fact of having water come in contact with it.

    SO YOLO
I made up a bracket for a S2 PTU and tried to mount it as close as possible to the side underneath the nose panel.

I used insulation around the wires, as well as plenty of duct tape for further protection!! :)

For comparison alot of people mount the PTU's under the nose panel right in the middle.

With a vented nose panel, the PTU is right in the line of all the rain that enters through the panel!!
Here is a example of a PTU mounted where water can get straight to it from a vented nose panel

Here is another example similarly to how mine used to be mounted before corrosion kicked in.

So I tried to mount it as far as possible to the side to prevent water contact :)

So together with mounting the S2 PTU under the nose panel away from heat, to the side rather than in the middle, and by insulating all the wires religiously I think I won't have any more corrosion troubles :zlove:

Just thought I'd share to give people ideas for future PTU relocation :)
Also thanks to BoneZx for the S2 PTU, one of the most knowledgeable Z owners out there :zlove:

That looks like a nice sensible location to place it.
    Well done.

Good stuff, Jamaine .... but I was under the impression that the S2 PTU did not suffer the same heat issues as the S1 and therefore really did not need relocation ... ????

Anyway, job now done and done well ...

Yeah i'm aware they are not as heat prone as the S1 PTU were, however my loom was already separated so it wasn't much of a hassle.
Tidies up what room I have left in my engine bay haha :p

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

IMHO, relocation of ANY electronic components, at the very least off the engine to the bay somewhere, is a very worthy idea.
Going that additional step further and shielding them from water spray is just as worthwhile.

Oh look one of my pictures was stollen.

Sadly a pic from the "how to" rather than the finished job (thanks it looks ugly lol)

I'd be checking why you had corrosion as why doesn't the MAF connector suffer similarly from being in the same/similar vacinity.
Also, despite the tuck to the side, depending on the nose panel, yours is actually closer to the vented air path there than what mine was down lower.
That's a great minimalist impact location though for those who have the room and minimal modifications in that area :)

    Good job.

I'm curious? What was done with your CTSender and CTSensor wiring?

I thought about why the MAF connector didnt have the corrosion the PTU connector did, and if you look at how my connector is postioned the connector is facing towards the radiator rather than horizontal as how my previous PTU was positioned.

CT sender and CT wiring still running in the same stock position
