Yep, dosn't look good. Any advice out there on what else I should do while I have the heads off and where to get a gasket set in Perth? has anyone come across a good guide on how to do this job, and how long will it take. Any advice would be welcome thanks. Also just wondering why I can't post images, I would like to start a rebuild thread but it would be a wast of time if I can not do this
Trust me mate, pull the engine, it's far quicker than pulling both heads off, especially if it's a TT.
If you have the equipment pulling the engine isn't too hard and is quite a good idea. Most people buy their Z stuff from either conceptZ or Z1 in the USA, Concept generally have very good service and quick shipping (under a week) but seem to have been having some trouble keeping on top of everything lately, I'm not too familiar with Z1. I would recommend going for a full gasket kit and major timing service if you can afford to put the money into the Z, https://conceptzperformance.com/Cart/description.php?II=14317 and https://conceptzperformance.com/Cart/description.php?II=671 Make sure you check the year/model is suitable for your car and look into each part and whether you need it (you don't generally need to replace the crank pulley or sprocket). Also consider doing under plenum water line delete, EGR delete and make sure you replace every rubber hose you see. Edit: As for a guide, head over to http://tech.aus300zx.com/ (linked at the top of the page as 'tech section') and have a look around, there is also one on doing the timing service (Will get you most of the way to heads off) http://z32.wikispaces.com/Timing+Belt+Service
Z1 is pretty good and pretty quick in shipping with tracking. Head gasket kit http://www.z1motorsports.com/product_info.php?cPath=4_36_103&products_id=505 Service kit http://www.z1motorsports.com/product_info.php?cPath=4_36_110&products_id=1680
Better put it back on you'll need it there to lift the engine out... Have you done a proper diagnosis on the head gasket? You'd hate to do all that with and find that it's ok...
If you want something local for timing service parts I also have stock. http://www.carcraze.com.au/?rf=kw&kw=timing
taking the heads off while motor is in car is supposed to be quite a task.....as others have suggested, easier to pull motor and work with it out of the car. photos need to be hosted externally on a site such as photobucket, then they can be posted in a build thread etc.
Well if your oil is full of water after overheating badly there is something pretty nasty going on down in there and needs the heads off to thoroughly check it out I would have thought.

A few weeks ago when I finally go the car running, just before the big cook up. Have since fond that they are a bitch to bleed the air locks out.
Heads off So to all those douters out there that reckon reckon TT heads can't be done or not worth the hassle doing in place I beg to differ. No it is not easy but nor is pulling the engine. You need the right tools Patience a plan to work too and be prepared to remove a lot of components to get at what you need too. Remember all that you are removing has to come off anyway weather the engine is in or out, the problem is getting access in a confined space and that is where having the correct tools and experience come in. While I have never worked on Zed's I do have plenty that
You are right, it can be done. I find its so much easier to remove engine and gearbox together, takes me about five hours and I dont have hoists etc. Once the engine and G/Box are out it only takes two hours or so to remove timing gear, exhaust manifolds and heads. Then I can see, clean and check everything under controlled conditions, this includes turbos. Refit everything and ensure that everything is torqued to spec and reinstall engine and gearbox. This takes another six hours. I work on my own and I'm 71yrs young Good luck installing heads, turbos etc with engine in, hope it all works out for you and you can prove all of us forum members who have done this task many times but have chosen to remove engine wrong
Martin is on the ball. I was involved in a TT engine-in head swap with GT28R's and that was a mission. Pull the engine, so much easier. And you can fix all the other little things easy while it's out (coolant hoses, vac hoses, rear main seal etc etc. Saves your back too.
Even at this stage I would pull the engine. It is so much easier to ensure that you have everything as it should be. What you dont need is to put all this time and money in then find out you still have an issue. Just worth thinking about in my view.
