Lets not call it epic until I manage to get the mould off in one piece!

This link has a few companies you can purchase from, otherwise cerra-design is a run by a Melbourne based modeller & can supply clay as well as tools. Tools Int'l from Japan is a big supplier of clays & surface treatments too.

Cheers for the kind words guys, fingers crossed I get this mould off the car this weekend then I'll suss out what I need to do next. New painter at work though so got to start hitting him up for cashie prices...

 

Hmmm, somethings different here...



Thats right, the mould is off!!! Actually came off pretty easily in the end, wing came off with it too which I thought it might.



Whole thing was off in literally 2 minutes. Need to fix up a few spots around the edges then will see about a second part for the mould to allow me to have a 'lip' on the underside of the wing to attach it to the hatch.
Got a fair bit on next weekend so might be a few weeks before I get a chance to lay some fibreglass unfortunately.

Hugely integral part of the build arrived today, my new oil cap! A Tomei 'Forged Piston Type' oil cap, fark it looks cool









Also works a bit quiet this week so currently shaving some timing belt covers & cleaning up some water pipes to be powdercoated.

Where did you get the allen key coil pack bolts?

 

because i'm not a tightarse. why you trollin?

anti, bolts were from a stainless engine bay kit that redzedmikey put together a few years back now. Think I remember him saying a little while back he still had some kits (could be wrong though) so maybe pm him?

 

Well has been a very quiet past month, got smashed by a flu so a cold melbourne garage was not the place to be for a while. Had a couple weeks off work but eased back into it by shaving / smoothing a few pieces once I got back as we were quiet.

New throttle cable cover, notched to fit with carbing strut brace, Nissan text shaved off & the whole thing sanded smooth.



Cue a coat of hi-fill & plenty of sanding & here's the finished product. Managed to grab the etched stainless trim from Russ & it sets it off perfectly.



Also did the cam covers, shaved the ptu mounts & those ribs then basically just cleaned all the nicks up.



In the little bag between them is a set of stainless bolts to suit, again from Russ. Believe both the trim & stainless bolts were originally from Smithy's Place via Caz.

Throttle cover is on & looks awesome but garage too dark for a decent photo. Cam covers will wait till I've shaved a new plenum & got it & some water pipes powder coated then all will go on at once.

Then last weekend braved the garage & got to work on the spoiler again. When I took it all off the car the part had 'popped' in the mould & was no longer sitting flush. Before starting the second part of the mould though I needed to tidy up a few spots where the initial thicker 'gel coat' of the plaster hadn't managed to get into. Managed to clamp it along the edge's which worked fine.



Then taped off sections to protect them from excess material, released it all & whacked on some more.



Cue this weekend. I wanted an edge all the way around but as mentioned the part had started lifting. To get around this on the thinner leading edges I needed to remove some material so I could reposition the edge flush with the mould. I then backfilled the groove to hold it in place.



All done & marked up ready for release. I'm allowing for all the oem mounting points for now & then can always trim them off if not needed.



& all done for today. I wont need the edge that wide all the way round but giving myself plenty for now then will trim it up nicely before laying up a part.



Have also started making a hood strut kit but that's early days at the moment. Exploring a few options for lower mounts.

thanks guys, I cant take all the credit for the paint though, must admit once all the prep work was done I hand balled it to the painter at work...
Finish is like glass though, very happy with it.

The finish on the covers look great. Did you paint them yourself, pressure pack/spray can?

 

I did all the shaving, filling, prep work. Used hi-fill primer then hand balled all the covers to the painter at work. 2-pac gloss black with plenty of clear, absolute mirror finish but we'll see how long that lasts...

 

I have a sickness, curse this upgradeitis...
Purchased a load of SPL suspension arms that I've been after for ages, nothing necessarily wrong with my other parts but dammit these are just nice!

Front tension rods, rear upper camber arms & rear traction rods. Man the quality on this stuff is top shelf.

Still need to get the front tension rods fitted though.
If anyone's after some ruca's or front tension rods pm otherwise will chuck an ad up once I swap the tension rods over.

Have also got everything I need to make the wing now, just need to get the mold ready. Spent a bit of time yesterday trimming it up but then had to take off to grab the suspension arms. Hopefully have it sorted soon.

Also have a powertrix rear strut bar & some bose boxes to go in but want to get the strut bar powdercoated first.

SPL gear is great, need to get myself a set of those rear traction rods at some point... Good stuff!

 

you BOTH need rear toe rods more than anything!

 

^ agree, they're on the list, hopefully not too long. These were available locally so had to snap them up while I could. Hopefully they release their new fuca's soon & that'll force my hand...
