I want to get a car cover for the zed while it's in the carport. I only drive it once every week or 2 and it gets pretty dirty from dust and lizard poo and also the neighbors cat sleeping on it sometimes mad: though the slingshot is helping with that). It doesn't have to be anything too flash, a glorified drop sheet is all I really need with a soft inside. Any recommendations? Something that can accommodate a humorously large spoiler too would be good.
I use an Autotechnica cover on my 2+2(it's water proof, has a soft flannelette interior and is vented as well)it also has adjustable tie-straps to stop it from blowing away. Highly recommended!
I am thinking you will have to be careful, if its outside wind will rub what ever covers the car constantly and possibly cause marks on the paint. Also hold moisture and cause damage paint. I think you may need to consider a proper cover.
make sure you buy one that is made of a 'breathable' material so that it still allows air circulation which can prevent moisture build up which could lead to mould. as for the paint you could always use some foam or manufacture something that will keep the cover from directly touching the majority of the paint, the spoiler at the back would at least keep the cover from touching some of the rear hatch.

Plus you can pour water on the cover & let it pool - it'll stay dry on the under side. They're great & well worth the money. After more than 12mths & some sun exposure - I'm pretty sure they're as good as the day I received them. Though very soft on the under side, like any car cover you need to avoid constant rubbing - I never drag the covers over the car while fitting or removing (roll it on, roll it off). To top it off, these covers are cheaper now than when I purchased...!
make sure it has padding too... the one i have is soft + waterproof so when it rains + hail its still protected also from falling branches etc
My family have used many over the years and the best ones have been made of neoprene (wetsuit), soft felty inside, quite water proof but still breathes, keeps car at ambient temp even in hot sun (even though they're black). Used to buy them from Supercheap but they seem to have stopped stocking them unfortunately. Currently my Z is wrapped in a Tyvek cover, water-proofing fails in heavy rain then holds water in but that wont be a problem in a carport. Can't really tell whether it's causing scratches as my car was already covered in fine ones but doesn't seem to be making it worse. Tyvek is durable so long as you don't put it over a hot exhaust or catch the hemming on your number plate. As for the cat, mix some snail bait with a tin of tuna, I hate outdoor cats. Although the cat probably does keep the lizard population down.
I'd more count the cat an ally than a problem. A cat sleeping on your car means no birds landing on it and crapping everywhere. I'm almost tempted to start manually transferring our cat from my old man's bonnet to my own due to the damn pidgeon population around here.
maybe if you de-claw it and it isn't too fat. Step dad's car has scratches down the boot from a cat that botched its landing.
