There's lots of posts from new members saying the 300zx was always their dream car. I thought I'd start a discussion on when it became your dream car and why.

For me it was the late nineties. I was a Uni student working part time as an IT consultant. I was working for a company in Newcastle (New South Wales). One of my clients (Alex Mandl if you're reading this) invited me over to his house for a beer and to show off this Jap import that he bought. It was a yellow 300zx. Twin turbo, 2+2. The first thing you notice is how low the car is and how fast it looks standing still. I jumped in the passenger side and it instantly feels like you're in a fighter cockpit. He took me for a blast around the southern part of Newcastle. The roundabouts get really interesting. This thing could blow away V8s, Falcons, Commodores, hot hatches etc. if it wanted to.

I even remember the stupid song playing on the radio. It was this Taiwanese chick who had about 2 hit songs in Australia. Coco Lee. I think most blokes just watched her video clips for her hot ass rather than her musical talent. It didn't suit the driving experience at all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7-HMWfl_Bo&p=70273D2C15A26A94&playnext=1&index=11

There you go. Confessions of a Z-aholic

i fell in love with the zed 20 years ago and then again 2 weeks ago. I was driving my (adult) kids up to Palm beach for fish and chips and spotted a Zed for sale on the side of the road. I said to my son in law " if that is a manual, Aust delivered NA I will buy it ..."
He held me to my word and guess who just re registered a white 1990 man NA on Monday in QLD ... I love the way they look, and after driving it home 1,300 kms last weekend I love the way it drives ...

I didnt know a thing about these cars when i got mine, i was the worst buyer. lol. I wanter a car with 300hp for under 15k , that was the main critera for me, then when i went to check the car out, i was in love, parked ont he side of the road it seemed to dominate everything else, it grabbed your attention like a super car would.

Driving back through southbank on sunny afternoon the day i bought it was a great memory for me. Chicks checking me out, waving and shit. It was Epic.

Then about a week later i pulled a heap of wire wool out of the exhaust which was restricting the boost. Instant 16psi and 320rwhp. I was in love all over again.

The recent memories arent so fond, expensive respray only to have a frut bat shit on the door 2 months later which needs to be painted again. numerous rebuilds and a car that probably owes me 35k now.

    Its all worth it though

13 years ago, there was one with 3-spoke wheels that was always parked out the front of my local swimming pool. It was awesome.

And guess what, it's still awesome 13 years later.

    :D.

An acquaintance's father had a yellow TT which he drove in the mattara hillclimb here in newcastle yearly. I didn't think too much of it, as she kept telling me that it was super fast, and no one would get you insurance for it.

A few months later, first year at uni, A mate had a Z31 turbo, and took me for a hot lap. We ended up doing a drift around the carpark at our work. Following that, a few years later in 3rd year uni, a nice z32 slicktop came up for sale on the side of the road on my trip to work. For a week I looked at it, wanted it, but thought it was out of reach. Shortly after, I got a test drive. The owner nearly called the cops because I was gone for over an hour, I couldn't help myself . After that, finance was sorted, and the car was mine :zlove:

    ZX1990 2+2 TT Manual

Always liked them - then one day was out with my Dad testdriving cars to kill an afternoon on the weekend - and one dealership had a Mitsi GTO, and a Z32 - both NA Manuals. I always liked the look of the GTO - drove that first, not impressed at all...felt like a Galant with 2 doors. Drove the Z - instant love :zlove:
Went to the UK for 12 months not long after that, so rather than putting my Old MA61 Supra into storage as I had planned, sold it - and when I returned bought my first Z - midnight Blue NA 2+2 with leather..loved it. Then moved to Aus - decided that I really did want the TT - so sold my NA, and bought my TT as soon as I got a job:cool: 6 years later, and quite a few $$, and a huge number of man hours - still wouldn't swap it for anything else :br::zlove:

I've always loved the look of the Z32's.

8 years ago it was a cross between a 1980 C3 corvette & a TT Z32 - I bought the vette - loved it, enjoyed it - then I got a ride in a TTZ32 and found it was alot more refined and actually faster, handled better etc
Sold the vette about 3 years ago, then bought a TTZ32 early this year - I love it more than the vette & use it as my daily.

It's basically a japanese corvette - targa top, rear wheel drive, sleek looks & oh yeah 2 more seats! & does everything waaaay better.

Well I was 17 and was trying to decide what kind of first car I wanted...and I remember seeing this gunmetal 300zx in town and I was like a stunned mullet! I just glared at it as it drove past and saw the "300zx" logo on the centre rear panel and as soon as I got home I went straight on carsales..and was shocked to see they were in my price range..I was thinking it would be like $30k+ lol...

So from that point on, I was in love and HAD to have one...my parents and friends were all against it since it was my first car...but I refused and said "I don't care"...Bought my zed from Bundoora in Melbourne, was pretty stock standard and from then have worked on getting her up to the standards you see her in now :zlove:...6 years of love and still going strong!!

That's zed love for you right there....:zlove::zlove::zlove:

Ahhh 3rd form at college i was almost 13 and a girl who was in most of my classes always got picked up by her brother in the soundstream 300zx....

    this is back in 2003...

I decided from then on i had to have one eventually... got into motorbikes for years, the moment i decided i wanted a performance car, wasn't exactly a hard decision, test drove a couple of mr2's didnt really like them as much as i thought, thought z's would be way off my price range until i looked them up.... test drove one and fell in love instantly.

    :zlove::zlove::zlove:

test drive ended up at my mechanic mates and stuck it up on the hoist and i had a poke around then swung by the bank, i came back and went, gimme...gimme nowwww!!!! must have it :D

was about ten and got given a little RC car that rechared on the controller. there were 3 to collect - a porsche, a ferrari and a z. my sister was given the porsche and i was given teh zed. loved the headlights, tail lights and roof line. the was about 12 or so and went to 'Big Boys Toys' in Canberra. must have been about 1994. there was a beautiful yellow targa TT 2+0 there. saw it, sat in it, dribbled in it. and thought this car is perfect cabin felt soooo right. the dash. the seats. the line of the door cards. PLUS is just looks like sex on teh outside.

saved and saved but wasnt allowed to buy one as first car (good move by parents). after i wrote off my first car (parent approved 1990 sabb 900, good car btw), i bought a red 1990 Ausspec.

funny thing is I used to drive faster (more recklessly) in that saab than i do in the Zed. also i wrote off that saab after about 2 years and in 4 years of zed ownership have never hurt her.

Funny how that works, i was worried i'd do too much silly stuff in a faster car, having never owned a rwd, okay admittedly i did a couple of burnouts in tyhe wet in industrails, because well.... you gotta do it at least once right...

but apart from the odd motorway wind up i've never really been a total wanker in it weaving through taffic etc, where as i drive my daily like a motorcycle....

    old habbits die hard...

yet the moment i hop in a z they go away, go figure.

Part of the reason I got mine was my parents didn't agree to me buying an s15 which was a 10 year old car, so I bought a 21 year old Z to piss them off :D:zlove:

    Blipman Beer hooves totally work

As my first car I almost bought a 280ZX... that long nose that went on forever and the targa roofs... I didn't realize they were kind of crappy cars though. I had my heart set on one and even had it inspected by the RACV, who discovered it had been in a massive crash and I got scared off and bought a boring Pintara.

A few years roll by and I realized I'd been working and not spending much cash and had some money in the bank. So I started looking at WRX's. Yeah I know. Anyway, I'd always thought Z32's were the hottest looking cars, but I'd heard that they just weren't fast enough as back then (we're talking 1999) the vast majority were NA's (no offence NA guys). I somehow stumbled onto twinturbo.net and people were talking about twin turbos which I didn't know existed and how they were spending $2,000 on them and getting 400hp, and the rest is history. I finally had one of the best looking cars ever made, AND with enough power to be fun :)

I would have been about 9 back in '99 going through some tollgates down in Sydney on our way to a camping spot. We were stuck in the queue waiting to pay by coin and i remember hearing it...

it was black..thats all i remember. It flew through the automatic toll gate lane thingy and the guy gave it some boot as it went from congestion to open road.
