The 4th round of the VHCC was held on the weekend at Phillip Island and it was a top day. Victoria really turned on a perfect autumn day with lots of sun and a very light wind. The track was a completely new layout that had never been run before so no-one knew what to expect. After the normal doc. check and scrutineering was out of the way we all got to go for a little drive on the track behind a safety car which is vital when tackling a new venue. Going through MG corner and up over Lukey Heights the wrong way was very novel. The only down side that most people I spoke to agreed on was that the track was just too short, and that the finish should have been down near the hayshed corner, which is where they put the first chicane to slow us down (you can just see it in one of my videos).

Pictures and videos once I edit and upload them.

Mikey and Jack had a fun day around the track so hopefully will post some aditional comments/pics.

Did you make that camera mount Pete? How does it mount to the car? I want something like that.

How are you going results wise in your class?

I designed the mount and Max made it for me. It mounts to the strut brace. I really should do a write up on it. I'm running in the middle of the feild in my class. There are a couple of guys who are just way to quick who have been doing it for a number of years who just dominate, and then the rest of us share the minor places. Here is a link to the results for the island. We are in group J. http://www.piarc.com.au/files/VHCRD4%20Category.pdf

This Mini was cocking its leg through MG every time:

From a spectator's perspective, plonking ourselves in MG corner provided good entertainment. Running in reverse direction, the cars had a long sweeping right hander, follwed by a quick left hander into MG, which tightened up on entrance. Quite a few cars locked their front lefts, some went wide and off-track, and others ended up in slides - some corrected, some didn't. The Porsche (one of Pete's direct class J opposition) in the link below ended up in a spin, the R33 and the Monaro below both escaped without a spin. The best spin of the day though was an Escort, which oversteered out of the right hander and spun before MG! Of course, I had just packed the camera away ...

I wonder how many of our younger members can identify this car, entered in the historics class?????

All in all, a nice cruise to and from the circuit, great autumn weather, although when the sun disappeared, the chill came back pretty quickly. Looking forward to the track day on the 30th, only as a spectator though.
