Anyone elses zed hate the heat?
I was driving up to Canberra from the coast yesterday.
Not sure exactly how hot it was..
    But quite bloody warm anyways.
The zed didn't like it much :-/
seemed a bit gutless most of the trip.
    Any ideas?

My Z ran fine in 40 deg heat... even when I couldn't take it :p

I drove to canberra from sydney & back yesterday, No trouble what so ever. Seems like you might need to have a look at your timing.

    How do I do that?
Do I need to use consult?

you can use conzult, unsure how accurate it is though, thats what i go by :) to what i have seen 15*BTDC is the go mate, my Zed had 43*C yesterday on the ambient temp thingo, she loved even with the air con full blast!

Yeah, driving in stop start traffic in canberra yesterday I didn't see the temps go anywhere above mid 80's so everything looked fine...

Hmm my ambient temp was showing about 35 degrees most of the time.
My temp gauge only ever goes up to half way.
Problem with the temp sensor maybe?

No, wrong. You can't use Consult. I don't care what anyone says.

Timing light is the only way.

now is a good time to check over your cooling system too!

    Yup.
I recently(two or three weeks ago) flushed the radiator
checked the temp sensor connector today, clean as a whistle.
Checked a bunch of other random connectors as well.
    All clean.

    keep in mind...

that hot air will produce less power than cold air.... so on a hot really day, the car might feel a little sluggish...

Also, the ECU has a temperature table. When a certain coolant temp is reached, the ECU will knock off some timing. Not much, but I think its about 2-3 degree's.... The coolant has to be very hot for this to happen though..... and on a 35+ degree day, its possible....

    Hehe, sandy crack :p

You can't use Consult to check base timing, all it will tell you is what the timing at idle is if your base timing is SET CORRECTLY. If you set base timing to 30degBTDC it will still say 15deg on consult (unless you have a auto).

You are not doing it correctly, i.e. you are wrong :p Don't suggest it to others please. Broken engines aren't cheap to fix.

I'm getting grouchy in my old age...

Just went digging through the maps...

Up to 80 deg there is no retarding of the timing, after that:

90degC = 1 deg retard off ignition map
100degC = 2 deg retard off ignition map
110degC = 4 deg retard off ignition map

does that timing retard change even if you have a chipped/tuned or aftermarket ecu?

Depends on what the tuner did. I would expect most are too lazy to change that table.

Driving Geelong to Adelaide yesterday ambient temp was between 25 - 31. I have a new vented bonnet and reco viscouse clutch. Temp constant 81 without aircon and upto 86 with aircon. This is the first long trip I have done in the Z and she hasn't missed a beat. Went for a run to the Motor Museum at Birdwood this morning as recommened by S.A members nice roads. High to the red Z I saw going the other way with the dog hanging out the window up in the little town on the way.

Thank you for the more "User Friendly" responce :) i have an auto tt. All i do know is consult is saying 15btdc on consult without the engine running, to what i have read it is correct so im going by that, Sorry for the Missleading info guys :)

    Cheers guys.
I think I'll just get my mechanic mate to have a look at the timing etc.
