Does anyone know if n/a zeds can run on LPG? Or does it **** them and the injectors? Like a dual petrol/LPG. So you can run it on either one.

    Any info appreciated :)

All Na cars can run on lpg using a ventuiri delivery system. but this robs air flow when operating in petrol or lpg so you will loose some power. Gas injection systems are getting more affordable but it would be a custom set-up for the zed. LPG runs a bit hotter than petrol and an upper cylinder lubricating system is recommended.

Direct gas injection systems are the way to go. Far more advanced then the venture systems and doesnt restrict air flow.

Chap at work just recently got this said system installed and what it incorporated, was its own gas dependent injectors. To which were plumbed into the intake plenum.

A series of gas and petrol shut off solenoids were installed to regulate the flows, and a simple electronic computer that detects cold starts or inadequate gas pressure. It will switch automatically between the two, but with also a master over ride to switch, so to control both fuel or gas.

With the rebate, the out of pocket cost was having his vehicle gone 1 day and about ~$400 iirc. The rest was covered in the rebate.

His engine was also a fuel injected Toyota V6.

These systems can be used in Turbo vehicles too, but requires a little more work. But nothing too tricky.

Talk to your local gas fitters and sus out what system best suits your needs.

I also run my XR8 ute (tow-car) on BBQ gas ... works well, I have a vapour injection kit, but with the 140-litre tank in the tub of the ute (to get long-range), the cost was substantial - my business paid for it so it was outside the rebate system. Even so, it works well and the fuel running cost is half the price of petrol, albeit that I have lost some torque - which I regained with an aftermarket induction and exhaust setup ....

If you are running a turbo on LPG, find a fitter who has experience. There are a few XR6 Turbos running non BBQ fuel around but they use "lots" of LPG if you are heavy on the right foot (30l/100klics is not unusual).

With turbo installation, make sure you choose your equipment supplier and installer based on proven expertise, not "claimed" expertise - make sure you do your homework and don't take peoples word at face value - check and check it again to make sure - then you will avoid disappointment.

if you do decide to go LPG I have a stainless steel mittons LPG tank I'm looking to sell, it's about half the weight of a normal tank, is nice and shiny and has been modified to flow 550hp so your not going to have any problems with the tank not flowing enough. Also being stainless it will NEVER corrode

I drive a lot of K's, and I did realistic numbers on the cost , considering lower cost of fuel, higher consumption, and you have to drive shitloads of K's to break even before you start saving money

doesnt really help chris' cause does it? hes in wa mate :p

go the injected system. had it in my ba falcon and its awesome. starts up on petrol then automatically switches to lpg once temp is up - improves valve guide life apparently. zed not being engineered for lpg, your valve guides will wear out in 20-30,000km (wild uneducated overestimated guess) and you will need to have it replaced with stronger guides. fuel consumption increased for me by about 10% (was doing 12l/100km on petrol, ~13.5l/100km on lpg). and my mate's same falcon had the old (venturi?) sytem and he was chewing ~15l/100km. i had programmable management and the bloke tuned it on a quiet back street around the corner from the shop (LPGAS1, Hallam) got rid of the flat spots on WOT, although the Lilydale shop has a dyno and their cars get tuned on that.

they drill holes into your plenum and mount dedicated gas injectors. being a straigth 6 it was easy. zed may have injector fitment issues with the lower plenum, but take it in and get it looked at. im sure they can work something out.

Seems like something not worth doing for a while... I probably only do roughly 350km per week. Perhaps I should just keep the revs low.
Thanks everyone some very usefull info here :)

When I spoke to MRC in regards to this about 6 months ago they said it cant be done to a zed, I forget the reason but yeah they are a LPG and 300zx specialist....

Yeah I saw that thread and never heard of him again, there has been no update on it since 2007.... seen a few threads start up over the past couple of years asking for updates too... nothing that I've seen?
