I have spent a couple of weeks trying to get my zed running after socketting the ecu. It ran fine for a day, then the following day the eeprom popped out of its socket causing the engine to run on 5cylinders. So I pushed the eeprom back in firmly and couldn't get the car to start again. I tried another ECU with no luck. Pulled the plugs which were all wet. Hooked one up and noticed it was sparking. Last time a similar thing happened it was a dead PTU, although since then I've been running on a S2 ptu. Anyway I re-wired the old S1 PTU (that I know works) and still couldn't start the car. After that I got my hands on the instructions to test the S2 PTU which turned out to be fine! So I swapped over the CAS, no difference. No faults appearing when I ran consult. Checked wiring around ECU and could find no problem. Spent hours searching this forum and decided to play with the two pin temp sensor. I simply unplugged the temp sensor and plugged it back and the car started!! It's not corrosion as I've cleaned the pins on the sensor and installed a new connector about a month ago. Re-installed all my original parts, ie: socketted ecu, S2 PTU, CAS, etc. And car wouldn't start. Unplugged and re-plugged temp sensor and car starts and runs fine. Will try installing another temp sensor tonight. Can't believe such a minor thing can stop the car from running!
Ordered a new coolant temp sensor. The car is running fine now but I'll be more comfortable knowing there's a new on in there
This issue will often not give any error codes. The only symptom being an occasional spike in temp in consult, but it usually happens pretty quick and you need to be lucky to catch it. Nistune is handy for this tpe of issue, you can log while cranking and then view the file for any strange sensor outputs.
