Hey guys, Does anyone have a 'good' bin file to share for the Z32TT Auto as follows: - stock injectors and turbos - boost @ 12-14ps - 2.5" exhaust from turbos back. Finally, the Nistune board is fitted but comes with the STD Nissan Auto tune. I need something a little better to upload for now till the car is tuned properly. Thanks Peter
standard tune for those specs is a better (safer) bet than dropping in a generic tune. Heavy on the fuel at the top end and light on the advance means you won't have any concerns between now and tune time. off the shelf tunes just lean out the mixture a bit at full noise and advance the timing a little. Not worth it until you know what your motor can handle.
Its common to do those mods and not bother with a Nistune, you dont get best performance, but it is quite safe to do it. As soon as you got bigger injectors, and or turbos you will want a nistune for sure.
The Top secret Tune is what you need. I uploaded it quite a few times. Not sure where it is anymore. (found it) Send me an email and I will attach it and send it back. grahamrjohnson@yahoo.com
The turbos are stock but high flowed with T28 intake wheels. I've tried the OEM tune before but no way, it can't do it. It detonates under stress, this car def needs a custom tune. Else, I will have to granny foot it everywhere. I might get some 555 or 450 injectors prior to the tune, they are cheap nowadays. But I just want to get up and running again with some level of confidence. Graham, email sent. Thanks Peter
How do you know the car is pinging? Can you hear it? If your car is pinging with stock tune @14psi the LAST thing you want to do is load a generic tune. If it's pinging now then you have an underlying problem that needs to be addressed...
A long time ago, I installed the Original ROM chip just as a comparison. On VPower it detonated easy once the granny footing was off. I went back to my custom tune ROM chip and it was all good. Now that I have Nistune, I just want something other than stock bin file b/c I know this is not good. Nistune has 300zx bin files but I can't tell which one is the moded one, that's why I had to get on here and ask for assistance. I'll load the Top Secret one for now till it gets tuned and will take it easy on the throttle. Always running 98 Octane. Also, my car is an auto (with moded valve body but....), so I can't go crazy in the power dept. I will tune this car with the STD 370CC injectors for the sake of Auto longevity. I believe 370s are good enough for 400hp. I'll be happy with that It's a rebuilt (like new) tranny, it should cope OK. The power will be enough for me after the tune and as much as I would love to put in some 450 or 555 and boost the crap out of it, it will be major overkill and I know this will be skidding all over the place. Concentrating on efficiency and utilising what's there now and 370's will be the limitation. I can't wait to get it tuned. Thank you gents for your suggestions. Peter
With the mods you've described and a factory (auto) tune, you shouldn't be having any issues running up to 14psi boost (although you will be getting close to the fuel limits of the injectors at WOT). If you're getting ping under these conditions something else is wrong.
Yes, it's the injectors. They're not coping. I'll tune it around the injectors and leave it at that. I have not touched the base timing. Datascan showing 15deg. At idle.
If you're maxing out the injectors, just run less boost, say 12psi max. Only other option is to upgrade the injectors. You can't tune around lack of fuel.
That's not your base timing, that's the idle timing on the map assuming your actual base timing is set correctly. Base timing is set on the CAS with a timing light. If your map assumes 15, then set it to 15. As others have said, stock MAP shouldn't ping with that boost level. Custom tunes are leaner and timing more advanced, it will be worse. If your injectors are maxing on a stock map, it won't be better on a custom map maxed is maxed they won't flow more with a different set of inputs unless you increase your base fuel pressure.
If you have a rom chip, why not plug that in, use the nistune software to pull that tune, then load it into the nistune?
Great suggestion! I didn't know the Nistune software could be used to extract the ROM from the chip that was there previously which worked fine. I'll see what the TOP secret tune is like. If not good, I will have to remove the Nistune chip and put in the previous one and extract the ROM and run with that till the tune is done.
