I know these pics have been up before and I take no credit for them. This thread is about enjoying the Z linage

I am putting them up because for one I like how they tie all Z's together (I know they are mostly 2+0's - And I am amazed how (for me anyway) the Z's when viewed individually can look like they have no relation to each other but when viewed like this seem to most definately belong together.

I love how the rear quarter window got longer and longer - untill the z31 and is now getting shorter and shorter, similarily I also love how they went away from curvy flowing lines - until the z31 then right back to them,

Below is a more stylised image of the progression.

seen them before, but still cool. would be good as block mounts for the garage wall.

I agree, one of the reasons I put them up was the fact it took me ages to find them in the end, I have seen them a few times but when I went looking for them I found it crazy hard to actually find them so this way I have a record

These are great. Thanks for sharing stumagoo. I haven't seen either of them before. Both those pics would look great framed and hung in the garage.

    That's a GREAT idea.

If anyone has links to HIGH RES versions of these, post up ;)

No you can't print them and sell them. That would breach copyright.

....but printing for own use..... well :rolleyes2:

Imagine adding this concept car on that list of evolution.
Granted it looks nice for an SUV but doesn't fit the evolution of the Z.
Nissan is turning the whole Z concept into a cheap poseur mobile and are willing to let go of the heritage.
Back in the 90's it was the GTR and the Z. Two awesome machines but different styles.
GTR: track weapon, pure function over style.
Z32: track weapon, classy, mature, luxury.
Concept Z....SUV, 6000feet off the ground trying to look like a sports car. oh dear.

Imagine the next Corvette, the GTR, RX9, Supra, heck.. the next Lamborgini as an SUV.
    Makes me cringe.
That will be another Pulsar becomes the TIDA moment for Nissan! They have lost it.
It will be better just to let go of the brand altogether with some dignity and start another SUV range and the 370 becomes the last Z.

Its actually missing the original Datsun Fairlady in the charts which was a convertible but still a fairlady nonetheless

I think Nissan did a great job advancing over the years up until the 300zx Z32 - that's where it ended.

Instead of pursuing Renault shoeboxes.......they should have stuck with what made the 300zx Z32 a winner for ten years straight!

So it would have been prudent for Nissan to pursue the same Z32 model style but continue with a major upgraded model, refitted with a full carbon fibre frame and panels, with a slightly larger and more plush rear seat and an option for an alloy V6 / V8 with garret/s, the GTR transmission system and the electronic displays etc. to match the current crop. I am positive it would have been another winner for another ten years.

Instead they have gone backwards since the Z32, so it figures it could only get worse from there and the SUV is proof of how stupid things have become.

The ultimate car is still a Z - but you have to custom build it now - all thanks to Nissans lack of foresight and consumer awareness.

Agree with everything you have said - however if you look again the early Fairlady's you are talking about are in the second - stylised - pic

    Been discussed soooo many times

But in short, Zed's got fatter and turned into GT cars. The Z32 was the end of that line.

The 350 was an "attempt" at returning to true Z heritage as a "sports car" and the 370Z was that vision executed well.

Twin Turbo's and great looks are what saved the Z32.

On topic (really), the 370Z has predictably depreciated like a stone!

Soon be a GREAT time to buy a well looked after one imho.

I thought Jay Leno had more class until I saw this, he went through the list image of the Z'ds above
& said this & this didn't do much for me, 350 370 more better
This guy has no idea about nice body shape & the revolution the 300zx made around the world.

I completely agree with all of this. But in fairness, Nissan were just meeting market demand. The 80s really were about style. There was a lot of money flying around and every executive wanted a 280ZX. Flashy cars were in. It didn't matter if it was a true sports car or not. Actually, upon release of the 240Z, Datsun themselves described the 240Z as a GT car. I personally think thats how it should be. To me that was always the appeal of the Z cars. Sporty but with some practicality.

agree or disagree he does have a point.

What lets the 300ZX style down is the rear 1/4

    The front is beautiful.

    The side profile is sleek.

The rear is menacing and yet smooth.

But the rear 1/4 flanks are straight, and kind of dull.

I kid you not. When I first test drove a 350Z Roadster, I know the EXACT moment the car was "sold" to me.

It was when I looked in the side mirror and saw it filled with "wheel arch".

Silly things like that make a heap of difference.

Even my 300C had more shape over the rear wheels than the 300ZX.

Yes you can "roll" them but it doesn't really work that well.

Adding flares on is the only way to improve it really, but that only works if you like the "track car" look.

This is waiting to be dropped into mine shortly :br:

Also the crossover isn't happening, pretty much everything at this point is "artists impressions". I believe we are getting the nismo models over here shortly... guessing that means another production year for the z34?

EDIT: I'll try and get that stupid link working...
