So we all have them, or love them, but whyd we pick them? Im interested to know what made the people on this forum choose to buy and drive the 300zx?
I think it is the best value sports car ever made sleek sexy and very cheap to do 12's at the strip Regards Trev
i went through a few different phases. as far back as i can remember i loved the 300zx, i dug up some old stuff and found oldschool diaries covered in 300zx pictures. then i remember as i got older i hated the zeds for some reason, i think i really hated the rear end with the yellow lights being so ugly and all...at that time i was really involved in wanting an r32 gtr. was at a mates of a mates house having a bbq when he showed me what he had in the garage. it was this zed i own now. was just too good to not grab, and an awsome price...so ye i wasnt even into em at the time it was just too good to give up... and now i feel like this ---> :zlove: :zlove: :zlove: :zlove: :zlove: :zlove: :zlove:
yeah im in a similar boat to you mate, wasnt really into them at the time, i knew their potential but more interested in skylines, supras and silvias however when you come across an offer you cant refuse you end up with something that you dont regret. :zlove:
for me it was the good looks, the targa tops making it a semi-convertable style vehicle, and the power potential from a 3ltr 6....... that and the zed is stupidly good value for money with the features extras you get on top of a similar value skyline/silvia etc
I had a friend that owned a few 260zs. He used to drive me home in it when i did a few odd jobs for a computer shop when i was 12. Even since then i wanted a 4 seater zed, used to spend my time at school looking at car sales for the day when i could afford a 260 2+2 or a 280 (since they had a bigger engine and were all 2+2 in AUS). Finished school and got a loan, at that time i figured if i got a 280 it would be too expensive to keep as i wasnt earning that much so i went for a 300zx turbo z31 1986. imported it from Melb, most fun i have had in a car. I never liked the shape or look of the z32 until i owned the z31. Sold it when i got a new job and was set to stay with the z range and found my current car. z32 TT 2+2 manual.
i was into zx's for a while because a family friend bought one a while back n i was like sexy but wasnt sold...but i found this forum and i saw DUB's zx and literally i was like damn i want one...that was the thing that pushed me over the line when purchasing one...but i definatly wanted to get the TT not an NA
wanted to get an r32 gtr but didnt have the money, looked at the next cheapest 280bhp car.. which was the zed.. went for a test drive in the car i own now and i was sold instantly on the spot
Always liked the look, and one day went out test driving cars and drove a NA back to back with a Mitsi GTO NA, both manual, both similar power - no comparison.... Waited till I got back from an overseas trip and bought one...have never regretted it! Now on my 2nd one after moving from NZ :zlove:
well being my first car and i had 12k to spend and comprehensive insurance is a MUST, the NA 300 was pretty much the best car i could get while still affording insurance and running costs (just ). plus it looks awesome, has enough power (considering my age any more power would be silly anyway) and handles awesome (especially on coilovers and top shelf tires, which mine is ) :zlove: :zlove: :zlove: :zlove: :zlove: :zlove: :zlove: :zlove:
just take a good look at them :zlove: :zlove: when i drive the zed I'm like this when i drive the BMW I'm like this look hot , go hard , and they are a real sports car ....................
Originally wanted a Corvette but ended up buying a Z2+0 TT 9 years ago 27K. Better value for money at the time + less work back then.. Had kids, Sold it Bought a Corvette a few years later. Still wanted another Z bought another Z 2+2 TT (room for kids) a couple a years ago.
It seems to me that quite a few of us bought the Z as an alternative to another high performance car because they were cheaper. I think this is one of the reasons why the resale value of our cars is soo low. Its because some people only see them as a cheaper alternative to a supra or a skyline so they opt for it. Bad news cause it means after a few more years theyre not going to be worth alot at all. However it still helps to keep the community of Z owners rather unique.
Yes and no... I think a well maintained, and clean example will always hold value. It all depends on the market, are the buyers true car enthusiast's, or young kids wanting something fast and cheap When I was selling my previous car many years ago now (VLCT), I had a lot of young kids tell me I was asking too much... and that you can get them for $XXXX now. Well I told them to go find one in as good a condition for that price. After having it for sale for months, and having nothing but tyre kickers and time wasters... I had a call from a guy who sounded like a true enthusiast, who had been looking for a clean example for months. Sold it to him the next week for my asking price
For me it was the package that the zed offered, a real sports car which didn't look like a sedan(cough..skyline ) and the fact i could drive one on my p's was a big bonus. It is a shame that the prices are falling so low as we drive such great cars, in a couple of years maybe prices will pick back up a bit as they become harder to find(fingers and toes crossed)..not that id sell mine in the foreseeable future.
