Hey guys, I want to get some stainless steel rear mufflers to replace the stock ones (look a little girly) but I have no idea what to get. I want to spend around $600 for both.I'm looking to get a 2.25" inlet (stock exhaust pipes are this size yeah?) and 4" outlet. I don't mind if it's loud, as long as it doesn't drone on the freeway and doesn't sound "farty" like some of those 4 cylinders out there.I went to the Muffler Man in Prahran and he said that for my budget i won't be able to get decent quality stainless steel mufflers. He advised me to go what he called a "big body" muffler and it was farking huge.. Maybe a little too big, but he reckons i'd need to go this otherwise it'll be too loud.Seriously guys, what should I do?

    dude.....

they are similar to mine. Have a look at the pics in my profile. There was a whole bunch of these mufflers hanging at The Muffler Man. In the end, if you want them on your car just tell him thats what you want. Its your money. But he is right, they will be quite loud and you may then have to silence them like I did my installing an X-pipe. Even with the X-pipe, they are still quite drony at certain revs. I'm hoping my headers will solve the drone.Cheers

    So..

What do your reckon.. Should $300 a muffler get me a decent stainless steel one? He was saying that $300 per muffler will get me crap... With $300 a side will I have to get non-brand stuff?

dude dont go for a straight through cannon

or you will be in drone city, i just left dronce city, i dont want to go back there for quite some time. i just swapped my mufflers for Macieks mufflers, he got a good deal out of this, the mufflers i had were about $300 each from Autobarn and looked similar to that pic, but mine were soooo loud[image]http://members.dodo.com.au/jjer/ex.jpg[/image]

    Put it this way.....

I have the type of muffler on my car that you want and I dont think they are crap. But chickenbum is right, these type of mufflers (straight through) are damn noisy. Especially on an NA car because we dont have the turbo's to baffle the sound. Of course, you can get rid of the drone but this will cost you extra money. In the end, they look nice but if you dont want loudness get something else. Otherwise, you will be paying more money for an X-pipe ($300), perhaps even internal exhaust tips (about $90 each). Cheers

    I believe mine are #14830

but if you go to magnaflows homepage atHome Page

The sound you hear is similar to what mine sounds like. You can have a fully stock exhaust system with these mufflers and it sounds sweet as :) But having a full system makes it sound a little less rough

And the good thing is, its not too loud (but people do hear you coming from ages away, especially in the middle of the night hehe) and does not drone at all. (well the 'drone' is within 2600-2800rpm isn't even that bad). With mine, if the car is not accelerating or decelerating, there is total silence :)These are straight through ones.

They would probably cost a little over $300 each, maybe depends on which style you like. They probably all sound similar

    I got 2 for NZ$300

They're generic brand T304 grade stainless steel. I got no drone at all. It's loud only when under full throttle above 3500rpm. If the cop is nearby, I just ease my right foot and I'm as quiet as the next camry. The loud sound is raspy like when cracking fire you pour fuel on burning wood.I believe I have no cats, but with resonators and 2.25 inch catless-back. And the strait-thru muffler. I'm happy with it, exhaust with dual personality. But this means people can tell if I'm going hard or not. :><

    I don't mind loud

As long as it doesn't drone on the freeway, as I do alot of freeway driving. I think the 4speed auto sits on just above 3k at 110k's.. As long as it doesn't drone there, and doesn't sound farty then I'm fine. I don't mind having a loud exhaust.I'll have a look at some tomorrow, he said we'll try some different mufflers and see what they sound like, but more importantly...How much should I be spending on a Stainless Steel muffler on it's own? I had a budget of around $300 each.

    I think.....

about $300-$400 each muffler should be fine.

    i paid more

i got the set of catback "Genie Turbo" set with H pipe, seperate resonators, and all stainless.
love the sound, on my NA it comes in at 89-91 dB, and highway driving the tires make more noise.
best thing is you can detatch the rear sections with a jack, 2 spanners, and 20 mins.
it sounds like youve taken off the entire exhaust, or youre driving a nuclear explosion!!!
