    Hi Everyone

For those of you that dont know me, My name is Adam. I purchased an 89 automatic Z32 twin turbo at the start of 2010. I did have a lot of problems with it in the beginning but most of them have been rectified. I still have a few issues though -

1 - My car seems to overheat occasionally for no apparent reason however, 80% of the time its fine.

2 - I'm fairly sure my car is running in safety boost because I'm sure it used to have more power than it does now.

I'm open to all suggestions of what I can do to fix these problems but what I'd really like to do is hold a BBQ/Tech day somewhere to introduce myself to the people in WA that have already helped me so much.

I know there is a cruise on end of November which I plan to attend. What would be great is another Tech Day the weekend before the cruise IMO.

Please let me know of your thoughts and interest as to where and when to hold it. I have spoken to the missus and we are more than happy to fund the beers and food and get it all set up :) I would love to hold it at my place but I live in an apartment and simply have no room.... sorry)

    Cheers.

how badly does it overheat, just a little warmer than usual, or properly boiling hot overheat? any more info on when it does it, why it does it.....?

safety boost is probably your knock sensor, put it on consult and find out, but thats easily fixed but the overheating could be bad.......

When it overheats, the needle is 3/4 of the way up, it seems to stay there however I stop driving whenever I notice it happening. normally its sits dead on half way, not just under... Dead On. I dont have consult unfortunately which is why I wanna throw a BBQ in the hope that someone will bring one :D

by the time your gauge is over half way, its really really hot..........

stock gauge literally only has 3 spots

    dead cold at the bottom
operating temp in the middle, position varies very slightly for each car, but always in the middle
3/4 or above, again poisition varies for each car, but by the time its moved away from the middle position, you are risking severe engine trauma

If you guys are interested in a mini tech day we can have it at my place.
I'm on 1 1/2 acres 5 minutes from Midland so there's plenty of room.
And I live alone so there's no Mrs moaning!
    2 bbq's and a pool too.
We could even go on a mini cruise after through the hills and the zig zag which my place overlooks.
Set a date Adam and away we go.

Really? That would be awesome mate. I know the midland area quite well. I don't know if I'll be able to this weekend but perhaps the following one. I'll pm you as soon as I figure it out.

    That sounds bloody awesome.

Adam - check your ecu codes (ecutalk/conzult/piece of wire) to check it's not throwing codes. Also check the thermostat, and the connection to the temperature sensor for the guage.

    Thanks dude.
After further inspection I have narrowed the overheating problem down to whenever I put the aircon on. If the aircon is off, the Z runs great. When it is on, takes about 5-10 mins of driving and I'm close to 100% on the shtty temp gauge. I'm guessing its my aircon condenser...

I cant check ecu codes as I dont have ecutalk/consult (It will be one of my next purchases). gonna do a mini tech day at Gargoyles house because he is so kind to let us hold it there. Check out upcoming events and PM me for addy details :)

it will be your entire cooling systemn needing a good flush and maybe an upgrade to the radiator... the engine will be working harder with the AC on... hence more heat to get rid of, heats up and over heats because cooling system sucks...
AC cant cause car to over heat itself...

Already done. Massive new radiator and the whole system has been flushed twice. The car's temp is great all the time except when i turn on the aircon. I guess my cooling system is still bad to some degree. What else could I replace/check?

how bout u fit an aftermarket temp guage so there for u can see more accurately the temp and how much it goes up.

Make sure your cooling fan comes on as soon as you turn the A/C on. Come to think of it, make sure it turns on at all! Pull the temp sensor connector off with the engine running, and the fan should come on straight away. If it doesn't then you may have a dud fan or fan power connector.

    Yep I'm gonna do that.

Checked the fan it's all good...

Can't do anything at the moment. I had an immobiliser fitted yesterday afternoon, it was a mobile callout. $199 later and my car starts and only runs for 40secs. He's obviously wired it up wrong and now I cant drive my car, again......

I rang and he said he will be over at about 6pm this afternoon even though I told him I had to drive the missus to work. On the phone he was speechless as I told him that I pulled out of my driveway (I live on a busy street corner) and my car just died. No brakes, no power steering, nothing! as an oncoming Land Cruiser nearly locked it up to avoid hitting me. I know this is partly my fault for not idling for longer to see if everything was ok but I trusted this "qualified" man of 17 years experience to complete this simple task right the first time.

There is no way I can "overide" the immobiliser and if I cut the wires or alter the work in any way before he gets here to fix it, I'll have to pay him for his time. Screw that, I'm gonna wait. But when I get my security system, central locking etc. I won't be going to him.
