Hi everyone I'm having trouble starting my zed.I need to pump the gas and then when it does start it revs up and down between 500 and 1000 rpms. Its almost due for its 100,000 klms service would that have anything to do with it?

100k service probably doesn't have anything to do with it, as that is primarily concerned with changing the timing belt and associated tensioners n whatnot.
Could be any number of things though from what your describing, how long has it been like this?
I'm no expert but it sounds like something electrical, check the basic things first i suppose, like is the battery well charged, looked at/changed the spark plugs, changed the oil recently? etc
More info will be helpfull to diagnose your problem mate

    Any error codes?

Could be dodgy PTU or injector connections

    Always start with the basics

fuel and spark. In your case it sounds like the old dirty electrical connector situation. Probably causes 95+% of the usual misfire, hard starting, non starting probs on the zed. Usually nothing serious and a relatively easy, cheap fix.

Try this diagnostic procedure (or find someone who has datascan/consult to check it quicker for you) and report back here the results.

    Save your leg muscles!
You are deluding yourself by attempting to "pump the gas", as there is absolutely NO physical connection between the accelerator pedal and the fuel delivery systems.
Your car is electronically fuel injected, it does not have a carburettor(hence it has no accelerator pump).

BUT it does have a TPS hooked onto the side of the throttle. The ECU changes the fuel map on airflow, revs and TPS ;)

Several hard to start Zeds that I've had a play with get going with a bit of a pump on cranking.

Get onto Karl (90TTZ), one of the best up your neck of the woods. You'll have to go and see him though, don't know if he can drive at the moment...

I had trouble starting mine especially after it had been running. I have changed coil pack connectors, injector connectors, cleaned and greased the PTU and CAS connectors and every other bloody electrical connection I came across and was still having the same problem.

One night I was reading on the US site about a guy who had similar problems and he took Viagra, oh no sorry that was a different site.

Anyway the US guy found his fuel dampener was leaking. I went and checked mine, easy to do with engine running just pull off the vacuum hose and if it's leaking there will be fuel there.

I ordered a replacement from Coz, put it on and no more problems. Certainly worth checking if you have checked everything else.

Problem solved! Started to remove balance tube to check electrical connector condition and fuel leaked from the fuel pressure dampner when the vacuum hose was removed. FPD bypassed now all better:zlove:
