Well as expected i was the only 300zx driver there
But no matter, because i had the time of my life anyway :zlove: :p It was almost a perfect day, it was warm (bout 22) and there were only a couple of light showers around lunch time which dried up very quickly due to the warmth. I only had to race once on a wet track, for the rest of the day the track was nice and hot 'n dry... good grip, besides the severe disadvantage of running street tyres on my behalf
There were 43 entrants  and i still managed to squeeze into 5 races even though it didnt really start till about 1;00pm because the amulance was very late! :bash:
The best lap time results for the day are here: http://www.nwcctas.org.au/SYMMS07.pdf

I was one of maybe 5 cars out of the 43 entrants that used a street car, the rest were dedicated track cars. I was also about one of 3 people on street tyres, everyone else was running track tyres. This was very noticable when you herd me coming round the track drifting almost every corner with tyres squeeling constantly lol
So yes, i think i can safely say that i would cut at least 2 seconds off my track times if i had proper tyres, one of the next priorities!
I was very happy with my braking capacity using bendix ultimates all round. They were fantasic! It took me till the last race off the day to really learn how good they were, and that i could hold the throttle at 180km along the back straight till the after the 100m mark before the big sweeper corner at the bottom!
Couple of things i need to improve on the car before the next track day (Nov 24) but i think i can reduce my current best lap of 1:08.15 to to the low 07's / 06's with street tyres still before i upgrade to track tyres.
I raced 4 out of the 5 races with 3 other skylines, but none of us wanted to bing our cars so we didnt get too close too each other, which suited me just fine :zlove: . The R32 struggeled a little (he only had street tyres on too) so that was not a threat, but the other R33 and R34 drivers were experienced on the track and had good tyres etc so their times were in the 06/07's. So yes i have to admit that the skylines werent too bad at all  My last race was with a group of slower cars and that was when i did my fastest lap as i was out in front the whole time. This kind of supprised me a little because i thought i might be quicker with someone to chase but it turns out that could have been holding me back a little, that and the fact that i had drastically improved my driving by the end of the day
Ah well there were a few vid cameras out there so i hope to get hold of the footage and put something up on utube, so keep an eye on this post in a couple of weeks, some of the fottage should be really good  haha with some nice offroad sliding incidences to report too!
for now here is a couple of pics...

    Nice work Odin...

Big improvement on your previous best. I'm sure the new boost controller has something to do with that, and maybe the fact you had rear brake pads this time too.

thats an awesome effort on street tyres Odin! :)

I like reading about other guys having a crack at circuit racing.

semi slick tyres will see you pick up AT LEAST 2 seconds if not more.

if you can, get adjustable camber arms front and rear after that.

    then coilovers.

then etc etc etc if you get into it like I have it never ends! :D

    Thanx Pete! :)

yeh, there are so many upgrades i want to make on my car to make it more track friendly, but unfortunatley the funds get stretched out very quickly  For now i think there is still room for a second or 2 in my driving, then to make further improvements might mean more upgrades. This is going to be very addictive i love it! Just luv the challenge really.
For refference my previous best time on a private track day with other forum members a few months ago was 1:13, which i have now reduced to 1:08, so a reasonable improvement, however my brakes were VERY bad on that first day.
Anyone else have lap times for 300zx's on Symmons? would be interesting to know what the possibilities are
The time sheet i gave in the link above is worth a look, there were some very fast cars there, alot $ in track modifications on older cars too. The Prelude mentioned there was an insaine track car... looked like one of those daytona cars! had polycarb windows, fair bit of the body was fibreglass or aluminum, huge wheels, bout half an inch off the ground and a mid mounted SR20! apparently it used to be Australias fastest 2.0L Naturally Asperated car
