Smoking on deceleration

    Hey guys,

I've had a problem with my zed for a little while now. It started when I got my tune agent dumps and front pipes installed. It would run fine but occasionally smoke at idle after driving it around for a while. This eventually stopped happening.

I got my plenum pull done which included getting the PCVs replaced a couple of months ago but as we also installed MagicMike's Sard 650cc injectors I couldn't really drive it around until I got it tuned.

I took it to get tuned a couple of weeks ago and its running really well now except that it blows blue smoke on deceleration. It doesn't seem to do it at idle or under acceleration and the problem seems to come and go. It did it for a few days then didn't do it for one whole day, then started again two days later.

I beleive Drz400y was saying something about its possible that i've damaged a ring land or something like that on the dyno or possibly a turbo seal. Would PCVs cause smoke on deceleration?

The exhaust system is stock manifolds, stock turbos, tune agent dumps, tune agent "test pipes" (no cats - yet), Kakimoto single exit exhaust. Due to the fact its a single exhaust I'm not able to tell which turbo/bank the smoke is coming from :(

I can confirm its definatly blue smoke, not black and that it will only typically do it under deceleration and when it does it lets of a fair amount of smoke.

Looking for anyone to list possible causes so that I can start looking into it. I've recently forked out a fair amount of cash to keep the old girl going I'd like to be able to drive it without being trailed by huge smoke plumes

    Sorry to hear Matt, :(

Doubt it's pcv valve related, going by you mentioning it only happens on decelleration.

    My guess would be first:

    Turbo oil seal
    or
    Valves
    or
    Eric's thought of rings

...maybe first try pulling off your dumps and have a quick visual on the exhaust wheels on the turbos for excess oil on one of them.

Hope it's a relatively easy and cheap fix for you brother. Good luck. Eric will look after you though. :zlove:

Cheers Benny, Eric always hooks me up :D

I'm hoping its turbo seals because I want to get bigger ones anyway to make use of the big injectors.

Broken ring lands are getting more and more common. smoke on decell could be valve stem seals too, but with valve stem seals there would be other times its smokey too, after idling for a long period or first thing in the morning

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll wait until I've finished moving houses then get Eric to pull the dumps off and take a look at what we've got.

90% turbos, under accel or boost the turbo shaft moves with the pressure on the fins, then when you back off a gush of oil dumps in the exhaust. it will get worse and worse, bearing is fine but rear seal is going.

do u have atmospheric bovs? sumtimes that smoke when u go off the gas because it messes with the MAF and the engine gets a squirt of fuel. or something along those lines...

I've never (personally) seen an actual case of that happening due to atmo BOV's.

From my previous experience has my $10 is on turbo oil seals going by these symptoms.
