So stock tts made 228 and 250 and yet the uas dyno reads lower than an already low reading mrc dyno? Lol

if the 228kw was stock turbo with a bit of boost, exhaust and tune, that sounds about right.

same with the na's. Numbers look about right.

    Read the category specs mike,

Stock TT refers to factory turbos regardless of bolt ons or mods
    NA means non turbo
Modded TT means aftermarket turbo and all other work

Ill go further into detail on a post event discussion

For the record my stock turbo winning 252.1 rwkw was at 15.5 psi

    My only mods are
    -3" cat back exhaust
-Dual 3A racing pods (MAF for each pod + Selin converter)
    -Z1 BA SMICs
    -Nistune

Except for your car picking up power.

Lots of different factors affect bottom line -main thing it was a great day, good company good prizes and loads of pics.

    Will post more later.

great example of good breather mods !

works great on any size turbos

You guys missed out on Dave's Pajero putting out 140rwkw on the dyno hahah.

    Funny thing about that.

So I had a look at some old dynos this morning. When my car was first tuned it had stock turbo inlets (so accordion pipes and factory 50mm inlets), and stock 2" outlets before stepping up to 2.5" at the intercooler pipes. Since then I've changed to specialty Z 2.5" hard pipes instead of accordians, MSP 60mm turbo inlets, and SZ expanding turbo outlets -which start at 2" but are conical so they're 2.5" well before they reach the intercooler pipes.

According to popular forum opinion I should be seeing peak boost and peak hp a little sooner with those mods right? Well the dyno says otherwise. Peak power is actually coming on later now (although in fairness that could be due to timing etc being backed off) but it's reaching full boost the same place it always has. I'm familiar with the spin from various forums and suppliers, but real world testing same car same dyno and no mods to the boost controller suggests that this isn't the case.

I'd be more inclined to put that power down to intercoolers, boost and tune.

    Hey Rob

when I say breather mods you keep isolating 1 or 2 little things expecting a gain .
its about a complete setup ! I keep saying this
you had the majority of mods already .you are already there.

your retune is without 100octane and the timing it had ..if that's what you are comparing to.

Not isolating one or two things -putting the last pieces of the puzzle together. If there were benefits to be had it would be at inlets which were previously the smallest part of the system and also the outlets where the air is hottest and expanding fastest and under the most pressure.

Yes correct tuned for 98 and much less timing and I'm happy to attribute the shift to the right (speaking about the power curve) to that. If I fit the intercooler pipes only and had no benefit you would say "that's because you're not looking at the complete system", but fitting the completing parts you say "that's because it was already in place". Anyway point being I read lots about what certain mods should do, yet to see any first hand evidence of what they do do, collecting lots of first hand experience that suggests they don't do.

Don't get me wrong, nobody would like to see gains from these mods more than I (having spent the money and spilled my blood fitting them with the engine in situ). It just doesn't seem to be the case except on forums.

if there were slight gains you wouldn't know due to the second post

you are having this debate with yourself :p

I can show you a dyno of 444rwkw and then 432rwkw even one on 400rwkw
on same dyno ,same psi ,same shoot mode nothing was changed but timing.

point is its a different tune now Rob.. and comparing 2 SMALL upgrades after being 90 % there already.

(you probably wont see any gains on the conical pipes alone its more for smooth transition)

Scratching my head as to what this has to do with my post?

Of course timing affects power etc -nowhere did I mention HP.

more timing and better fuel will bring on power a little sooner ?

Pretty sure that's what I wrote in my first post

Point is according to popular opinion it should be spooling sooner, and it's not. Tracking the boost curve it's hitting 23/24 at exactly the same rpm as always -tune & timing etc are going to affect power and the curve, they ain't going to affect the air being displaced...

  17. BLACK BEAST

    BLACK BEAST SLICKTOP TT R-SPEC

    that's cool

I'm misunderstanding what you are expecting from intakes and conical pipes ?

if your tune now has less timing and different fuel which brings power on later and makes less top end power.

Am I not on the same page

With those small cams and turbos? Not if you're playing by the rules ;)

Anyway this has definitely run it's course, time to lock it up
