    red32 You talkin' to me?

Should really be VIC/SA in the prefix!

Just got the entry forms for this annual event to be held on the weekend of 24/25 October.

This year it's being held in LOXTON, which means we are entering unknown territory re accommodation.

There's a caravan park down by the river with similar facilities to Berri, but it's 2km from the town center. Designated drivers will be necessary!

Otherwise there's the more expensive motel-type accommodation in the town center, or perhaps the 'backpacker' venue (really cheap, but of a communal nature, with bunk beds only), across the road from the main venue. Then there's the various B & B facilities - up to ten people, but scattered around the town.

The reason given by the organisers for shifting the venue is to spread the financial benefits to the other Riverland towns, but I have to say that I was quite happy with the Berri setup.

Events this year include the Saturday Show 'n' Shine, of course, with a band (same as last year), presentation dinner on Saturday night at the Loxton Sporting Club (so far I have been able to find two (2) addresses for this) , and a regional cruise on the Sunday with a BBQ lunch.

If it wasn't for the opportunity to meet up with the SA crew, I would give this a miss!

    What do you think?

Same, the only reason i'll be heading up is to meet the vic crew. The only reason i didn't head up last year is cause my 100k service hadn't been done, didn't want to risk the engine going boom on such a long trip.

I was all set to go to Berri this time, I'm still kind of keen but you don't sound so into the change of venue and I guess it depends on the state of my car at the time too, it may well be engine-less.

    I'm always keen....

I'm always keen for the annual Berri run, and I would have been there last year if it wasnt for our U.S trip..:) The change of location is concerning as I quite liked the old setup with the accomodation being right next to the show n shine oval. But change is not always a bad thing and I'm willing and happy to at least give the new location a go. For me, the only reason not to go is if the usual Vic and SA members are not going, as for me, the weekend is a mix of the show n shine, but also having a relaxing easy going weekend with friends.

Dougy, I didnt receive anything in the mail, I assume because I didnt go last year. Anyone know where I can get the forms?

So then, who from Vic and SA is planning to go?

    about 1500km all up....

The old location (Berri) was approx 700km away from melb. Not sure where the new location is though, but its definetly an interstate trip....

Loxton is not too far from Berri, it's quite a nice little place from memory.

RedZedMikey RZM should now be DZM

To Loxton from my place in Carrum Downs is about 755km each way, it's about 6km down the road from Berri.

I'm interested, but in no place to make a commitment at the moment.
    1. There is already 2 events in October which I may be attending; dates not finalised yet, and ...
    2. If the Z isn't finished the engine rebuild and running to my satisfaction, Berri/Loxton will not be on my agenda.
I only attended 1 Berri show previously, so I have no real loyalty to Berri or concern about Loxton. Given Berri is only 6km away, using previous accomodation could surely be arranged?

    Hmm...I'm interested :zlove:

Can anyone give me a bit more info about what the previous events were like? Is it a Nissan thing? Who runs it..etc
It's about a 7 hour drive from my town, just gotta hope the zed is up for it :)

    Renee

I have been to 3 of the previous Berri Show n shine weekends...... From my perspective, I've always had lots of fun and look forward to it each year. We usually drive up on the thursday (leave thursday morning, get there late thursday arvo). Friday is then wash car and relax day. Saturday is the show and shine and usually we leave the sunday morning to return back to melb. The berri location was awesome, right along the river and the accomodation (cabins) was right next to the show and shine display. The nights and part of the days are usually filled with drinking and catching up with friends..)

As for the show and shine itself, it incorporates all type of cars. It is very much a custom or hotrod show with immaculate cars on display. But it also has a lot of modern cars on display as well. The last one I went to (2007), the FPV club dominated and had heaps of cars on display. The import scene is actually quite small, so walking around the show grounds and seeing a line of zeds on display is pretty special.

Overall, if the usual vic crew can make it, and the usual SA crew can make it, it ends up being an awesome weekend.

    Cheers

    Cool, thanks for that Mark...
I just did a search on Berri...I don't know why, but I've always thought that was in QLD:confused:

Do they still have the dyno and drags like they used to?
Hmm...my main concern is a coolant leak, each year someone has had one
But still, I'm interested in coming :)

I've been interested in going over to SA for a while now (never been that far west as sad as it sounds).

Will depend also on a few other event dates in Oct, but if Im not tied up, then I'd love to go too!

A weekend away with Zedders is always a good time! :D

    Riverland Motorsport Club contact details...

For those wishing to contact the organisers for entry forms, hit this link:
www.riverlandmotorsportclub.com.au or contact Stuart Edwards direct 0418843899, email slo300@hotmail.com

As Mark has already said, there is a wide range of cars (and occasional motorbikes), but not too many Japanese imports. Report on Berri '08 will give you some idea of what turns up.

This year, there is no Dyno, and no Drags... but there will be a band, as there was last year, on the Show 'n' Shine day (Saturday). Last years band was quite good, don't know if it will be the same one.
Presentation Dinner on Saturday night (singing 'Happy Birthday' is not permitted) and a region cruise followed by a BBQ lunch on Sunday.
Special attractions scheduled for this year include Gary Baxter's V8 Brute Ute, and Gary and Debbie Myers 'Silver Bullet" supercharged Mustang coupe (just for Blondie!).
Any other fun is up to the attendees

Berri is 705km from Jack's (ZXTT-1) place in StKilda and 706km from my place in StHelena (Greensborough, hence the distance travelled trophy last year), and Loxton is about 15 minutes further west.

Accommodation is the unknown. The Riverside Caravan Park in Berri is one of the cleanest, best run facilities I have had the pleasure of staying at. The park at Loxton Loxton Caravan Park looks to have the same sort of cabin accommodation, which is quite comfortable for a weekend away, but they will have to be good to match Berri. The problem with this facility is that it is not within walking distance from the event venues (it's about 2km from the town center).

In spite of my personal reservations about accommodation expressed in the thread lead, this is usually a great (often brilliant) weekend.
