trying to replace the fog lights on my auspec but nowhere seems to sell the replacement bulb with the rolled up connector to my zed. everywhere has the flat end connector but not the rolled. can someone please tell me where to get them from easily or donate some to the cause. im used to doing the run around for anything Z related but surely it shouldnt be this hard to replace a couple of bulbs...
Aus spec Foglights? Are these some that you've installed, I have a 90 NA Auspec & it didn't come with fog lights just a parking light /indicator module and 2 outer blanks with a lens over them, was this an option on a later Auspec model?
this is a close up of the connector inside the light..see the little connector right in the middle that looks like a pen lid. this is the globe that came out. pretty standard apart from the tube connector on the end to match the connector in image 1. heres a close up of the tube connector on the globe. and this is the connector for the same globe but with the flat end (which is the only one I can find in motor stores). help is appreciated as it just annoying to know that they both arent working hahahaa
dunno mate, owned a few zeds and they all had the same fog lights with matching globes. they were also all 89 models. see pics ive added.
Is your Aus-spec actually wired up for 35w or 55w fog light globes??? No Aus spec came with fogs, only an indicator/parker combo 2/3 amber 1/3 white.
so cause this one has fog lights ur saying its a Jspec??? my other 2 were Jspec and they both had foggies. they are 35W btw, and thats why im having a shit of a time tracking them down then...will 55W work???
That's just a female bullet connector. Get some crimp connectors and make a adapter- female flat connector> short length of wire > female bullet connector > existing wiring Budget 50c and 3 minutes for this job. Winning.
Get the insulated connectors if you can, or wrap in electrical tape so it doesn't short out accidentally.
J-specs did come with Fogs. It is possible to convert an Aus-spec to have J-spec fogs... there are a few obvious things between aus and jap main one being is different rear bar(wider license plate+rear fogs)
Rather than making up an adapter you would be better off just putting a female flat connector on the existing wiring as i have never seen a h3 globe with a bullet connector before
Do not make up adaptor leads. The PVC insulation on the wire will not be sufficiently rated for the temperatures within the Fog Light Housing. Even wrapping them in fibreglass tape is not sufficient. 1. Get some new bullet connectors. Ensure that the connection is made within the Fibreglass shrouding for insulation purposed. Do not cut the shrouding back. Peel or roll it until you have sufficient access to work. 2. Get some proper insulated ratchet crimpers. Around $50-$70 from Jaycar. Will have crimp points for Red, Blue and Yellow. DO NOT use crappy Repco or Supercheap crimpers. They dont crimp correctly (creating a potential high resistance joint which will burn out) and have a tendancy to break the outer insulation. Is a bit of a PITA the first time, but will only have to do it the once, and the crimpers will be ideal for multiple future works- stereo, turbo timer.... and other peoples' cars
buy yourself a gas powered soldering iron from JAYCAR ($100), no electrical cables in the way and its like a small pen which is easy to use for beginners like me, seriously the best tool I have bought so far and even my mates are borrowing it for stereo stuff. Makes all electrical problems with the Z so much easier.
It's all good to drop 50-100 bucks on tooling, but when that is for the sake of a single light globe... seems like false economy to me. Surely you can divert the insulated bullet connector out of the housing somewhere where temps are more forgiving? Like the genuine nissan part couldn't be that pricy, surely?
If memory serves, the tails on the replacement globes do not have sufficient length for installation outside of the housing, and even if that was the case, one is still left with the necessity to crimp replacement bullet connectors on..... which requires the correct tooling for the job. Last thing you want to do is solder them in. The $5 Supercheap crimpers MAY work, but every failed attempt means shortening of the temperature rated fibreglass insulated wire . An apparent success can still result on the wire pulling from the connector when you next go to replace the globe (which will be sooner rather than later if the connection is poor). If you are friends with an electrician, in either the Auto, Commercial or Industrial fields, (no use for in Domestic) they will most definitely have a set of these crimpers to borrow.
im thinking of sticking with my original comment of "replacing a light bulb shouldnt be this hard" hahahahhaha gunna attempt DIY today...
Sorry if appearing blunt. No, it shouldnt be that hard. You should be able to get replacement globes with bullet connectors rather than spade. Another unfortunate consequence of J-specs. Try Vader, he may have a pair. Go to the trouble the first time, and it wont be hard ever again. Have fun with it
