    Hi guys,

I'm currently in the market for a new clutch and would like to get some opinions or know what clutch you guys are running in your zeds. I have about 300rwkw & bout 750Nm of torque. Ideally, I would prefer a clutch that can handle some abuse, i.e. drags, or light track use but mostly street driven.

    I've compiled a range of clutches that I've come across;

    - Direct Clutch Sales (DSC) Twin plate organic clutch
    - Mantic stage 2 or stage 3 clutch
    - Exedy sports tuff HD cushion butting clutch
    - ORC twin plate clutch (550PS)
    - NPC twin plate clutch

    Thanks in advance!

P.s Sorry if this topic has been posted before, couldn't find much information or feedback.

How much do you want to spend? There’s probably $1500 between the least and most expensive clutch in your list.

The exedy cushion button is beautiful to drive on.

As is something like a Nismo coppermix but a lot more $$.

I haven't used a button clutch for a long time but the last one I had was not very streetable. Used on the street it didn't last very long. Hopefully Excedy have sorted it out ....

I've been using organic disk since. Mainly street and a little track but no drags.

I used an xtreme HD full face clutch (ebay) on the v8 zed. Very nice to drive on the street and has done 30ish launches on slicks at the drags. I pulled it out last year after 3 years of driving it and it still has plenty of meat on it.

Very good value and performance for the $400ish I paid for it.

I would say my limit would be $2,000 but I am searching for the right clutch to suit my purpose!

Twin plate is way overkill for your needs but the only thing you'd regret about buying one is the price tag. A good heavy duty full-faced organic clutch will do the job, going for a sprung puck ceramic clutch will handle more abuse (track days and launches) but they're less forgiving if you mis-use them and require a heavier pressure plate. Jim Berry does custom organic clutches many on this forum and the skyline guys use.

As Tom mentioned above a Twin Plate will be very nice to drive but a good deal more expense than you need to go to.

The Jim Berry that Tom mentioned is a really nice clutch for a big HP car but again quite expensive (not to say that it isn't good value) and will feel very heavy under your foot.

I haven't tried an H/D full face but as long as it will hand the tq. it is probably your best option for a primarily street driven car.

Going more heavy duty than you need involves down sides and compromise. A very H/D single plate will feel heavy as fuck, a twin plate will be noisy as fuck and harder on your driveline...

I'd go the exedy cushion button personally. Great to drive on, has the torque handling that you require, and not unreasonably priced. Be aware though that any button style clutch is not designed to slip and you will wear it out faster if you ride it.

I can only comment on the clutches I have used, and to date I’m on my 3rd Jim Berry Z32 clutch.
2 have been solid center and 1 sprung center, all organic button I believe .
The clamp pressure on these are insane 4400 lbs.
I really don’t find them too heavy, but I don’t drive in a lot of stop start traffic etc.
I have never had an issue with these slipping, I’m at around 550 whp BUT I do not get longevity out of them.
Jim always bring it down to contamination but I totally disagree, and he does love the photos of the damaged good I send him LOL
What I do though, is give them a pretty brutal time, I drive the car hard, particularly at the drags.
I wouldn’t have put the 3rd one in if I didn’t already have it sitting on the shelf, I would have gotten some advice from direct clutch

    Hope this help.

I run a competition brass button clutch, many drag launches on ET streets. Was a daily driver for ages too.

This..... EXEDY Sports Tuff full face organic. Has if I remember 1400lb clamp load. I have this clutch in my car.. which has loads of torque (no dyno) just seat feel, and to date not one problem.

I think my car has similar power to yours and I just yesterday installed a McLeod Racing Stage 4 6 puck ceramic clutch from Conceptz. I think the way the stats are given on this clutch turn a lot of people away (ie: cars with 70 - 100% more power than stock) but when I gave McCleod a call they assured me that this clutch would hold 550 ft/lbs of torque without problem.

Over here (USA) McLeod is mostly known with the Mustang crowd, but since they have been trying to get in the import scene, and with a price of $350USD, I decided to give them a shot.

First impressions, this is my first puck style clutch and the engagement was certainly more aggressive than the typical disc style. However it feels like it would really launch hard at the local drag strip. With a little driving I started to get the hang of it quickly. Once moving there really isnt a noticeable difference in gear changes, it is just the starting part that takes a little finesse.

Just thought I'd mention it since I could buy two McLeod clutches for the price of one JWT at these power levels.
