No dramas, let us know if you find anything. Are you running the OEM shims or not?

I'll let you know if/when I find out what's causing it.

*** HALF PRICE REARS DEAL ENDS TOMORROW! ***

Get in before tomorrow to take advantage of our extremely popular half price rears deal:

    - Front and rear HPX $131 delivered!
    - Front and rear A1RM $191 delivered!
    - Front A1RM and rear HPX $171 delivered!

Due to the popularity of the deal, some pads have gone on a manufacturing back order (such as DB1170 and DB1220 in A1RM), but all pads ordered before tomorrow and paid for by week's end will still be subjected to the half price rears deal.

Any questions or dramas, just let me know, or give us a bell on 1300 884 836!

    Regards,
    Greg

    * All prices quoted are for QFM's standard pad range. Custom order pads that we do, such as Brembo, HSV AP etc. Have their own pricing structure, contact us for details!

WHOA talk about cutting it close!

I put my order in last week. Fantastic communication from Greg, very quick and very helpful. I'm waiting for the back-ordered pads to arrive (getting HPX all around too). Very good service already :)

Wow, just as well you're not in Sydney or Melbourne as daylight savings would've been a killer! I guess the boss will have to cop this one... :p

PM your details, full name, delivery address (preferably a work or business address), contact number and email and I can fire you through an invoice with direct deposit details, or else credit card over the phone is also available.

    Tried to ring today

Left a message Greg - I thought you were open Saturday too. PM me your bank details and I can leave a deposit, or will ring on Monday if that will still get me the half price rears and I can pay straight up with credit card.

    Update on my squealing brakes:

Gave them a good hard workout at Morgan Park over a couple of days, they worked very well on the track, out braking pretty much everything else I was on the track with. That's just with the stock brake setup and new(ish) fluid too.

The bad news is that the squeal has got worse, not better.

Well, it sounds the same but comes up more often. initially it was only there during very gentle braking at very low speeds (less than about 20km/h) whereas now it is there during very gentle braking at most speeds.

I reused the old shims, could this be it? Also, are all shim grease products created equal? Could I have got a bad one or one not suited to high temperatures like track driving? Could I have used too much?

    Any other ideas?

silicone the shims 2 the back of your pads. should stop it !!! otherwise your rotors are warped and creating the noise

Not just using standard leak sealing silicone from Bunnings I take it?

Noise is new since changing pads so probably not rotors.

Yep, that can work. Just get yourself some high temp sicaflex from a parts supplier.

Noise is harmonics between the backing plate and the caliper itself, nothing to do with pad material or rotors at all. Noise if pretty rare for the A1RM, certainly I've never hear a peep out of them in either my road or rally car, and noise does seem to be limited to the 4 pot sumitomos that come on the 300ZX's and Skylines...

The only other suggestion is EBC make universal cut to size anti squeal pads that you can attached to the backing plates, similar to what EBC and TRW use as standard.

Thanks, I will try all of the above and see what I can do.

Just a thought, I gather the older ones were made using recycled backing material (which seems like a good idea to me, silly to waste it), is it possible that the backing plate is the problem, hence some people having squealing issues and most people not even when using the same pads on the same cars as the plates could have come from all different places?

    Peter,

Na, your DB1170 and DB1220 have all been brand new backing plates from the one supplier for the last 6 years or so.

You're thinking of the Brembo pads where we have to source backing plates. That's not the case with the standard Sumitomo Calipers pads which QFM have always done without need to find used plates.
