well on the passenger side which is where the turbo will go there is stacks of room for the exhaust and im thinking of relocating the alternator and running an electric ps pump for even more room. there is definitely room for the gate, just positioning it well might be tricky

Really like this car - well done putting this together.

Really like the gold lights and have done for a long time now, suits this vehicle very much, and lol that they were silver that faded to gold.
I have actually wanted to do the same (gold instead of coloured), so was this a chrome paint that was applied and how long did it take to fade in the sunlight? I assume that I would just use a gold paint rather than waiting for the silver to fade - lol - certainly not easy to replicate that way.

Anway, once again - really nice car - you should be very proud of yourself for doing a first class job on a Z.

Did you ever consider putting a chev instead of the LS ?- (nothing wrong with the LS) I'm just curious if it was actually something you wrestled with in the decision making/ design process

    Cheers

    Thanks,

There was a guy here who applied the paint/coating. One of the things he said was it was guaranteed not to yellow or crack. Well at least it hasnt cracked :p

I really dont know what the product was called, it was done over 5 years ago.

You could try to track down the metallic gold that duplicolor sell. I reckon that would be a close match

    http://www.duplicolor.com/products/automotiveMetallic/

The main reasons i went LS was the power potential over the small block, and i actually like the sound better. I think they are a better package. I know the weight difference isnt that huge but the alloy block was also a plus. I thought about all the options in the beginning. LS, vh45, sbc, 1uzfe. It was quickly narrowed down to sbc and LS. The best thing about the conversion is once its in there and working, you can make huge leaps in power relatively easily and cheaply. As an example, a 408ci rotating assembly is $1800

Fits even better than the 4L65E but turns out the flex plate converter hole spacing is wrong so gonna need a new one of them too but thats no biggie

Nice work there, Chris. Looks great. Has the turbo quietened down the exhaust note at all?
When does Kurt get the keys back? :)

The plan is to pick it up this weekend. Will need to be towed home and then to the tuner as it wont really be drivable running off one o2. I have only heard it before the exhaust was finished and it was loud and grumpy as. From what i gather the turbo has not quietened it down much.

Nothing but praise can be said for Chris' workmanship and attention to detail. The guy can make anything!

    Hey Mate

Gets better every day - really love the work into this Z

Got some questions, if you don't mind - can post/ pm if you like

How much bellhousing did you have to remove to get the donk in?

How much did it cost you to put just the V8 in do you reckon? (costs of motor and inserting - without turbos and extra mods etc)

What is your car worth do you think?

    Cheers

I had lots of firewall and floor mods. More than needed especially with the turbo 400. You could probably fit this engine with this trans without cutting the firewall at all but i like the extra room. If you wanted to keep factory aircon etc you would want to avoid touching the firewall.

I spent around 10k fitting the motor originally thats minus cost of engine and ecu etc. i reckon it could be done for quite a bit less though with the knowledge i have now regarding exhaust manifolds etc

As far as whats the car worth, well i doubt i could get 25k for it maybe not even 20k.. Its insured for 18k and will be increased soon.

Ive probably spent the same as buying a new hsv or something over all the time ive owned it but i still think its all been worth while

Thanks Mate for the info - appreciated

I have said this a million time I know - but you have really done a bloody fine job with this car - and it gets better all the time!

Appreciate the time you take here to let us in on your project and answer questions as well

You could never show enough photos of this car - I await the next batch with anticipation.

    Good on ya mate!

All done now just need to wire up thermo fan and secure battery properly.
hopefully the hydraulic guys will get the electric power steering lines sorted pretty quick.

Just want to say a huge thanks to Chris for his incredible work on my car. He has showed true passion and dedication throughout the turbo build and I couldn't ask for a better result. Finding someone who treats your car like it was their own is extremely rare these days.

He needs to open a fully fledged workshop with tuning in house!
