Very nice work on the dump pipes!
I learned the hard way about the boost creep with SZ 3" expansion pipes.
I installed full breather mods on my Z including throttle bodies with ported heads and wastegates could not keep up. It didn't end well.

There ya go, 2 1/4" main pipe (bottom) for GT3071 with T28 exhaust housing ;) Port match the dump pipe flange to the turbo and you're good to go.

    New Exhaust

Seems I can't stop playing with it...

So as I mentioned previously the new dumps were making the old exhaust look a bit shabby.

I dug up some pics of the old exhaust that UAS had made. It wasn't awful, but it was mild steel and the MIG welds were kinda crappy. This was done ages back and I wasn't really a part of the process -I ordered the staino mufflers but then UAS sent the car out to Racers Choice to have the system assembled and for whatever reason this is what came back.

A little while back I dressed it up with some paint and and polished the mufflers.

Anyways I figured while Nitro Dann had the car I may as well get him to re-pipe it -one less thing to come back for that way  New system is the same size as the old (3") but stainless with TIG welds and v-bands throughout.

Pics below; looking much better now. This is the standard of parts and workmanship that should have gone into the car the first time around...

Funny thing is as I mentioned on facebook the new system from the turbos back (so including the dump pipes) cost me $1000 less than the old...

Seriously if you're in Sydney, Newcastle or surrounds (he's about an hour 20 from me but well worth the trip) hit up Nitro Dann for awesome fab work. Unless you want dumps; they're only available through RGS Performance ;)

Been a while but I finally did a thing with my own car for a change...

The car has always had a fairly healthy (unhealthy) appetite for oil since the rebuild that for a number of reasons I had attributed to either excessive piston/bore clearance or loose rings. It blew a heap of smoke on cold starts, but seemed to settle down when warm, and made bucket loads of power so the problem went in the "pain in the arse but not in a hurry to deal with it" pile.

Anyway a short vid of the smoke

Anyway I finally got the engine on a stand, and after having it sit there for longer than I'd like to admit I finally got around to doing a leakdown test last night. Turns out my preemptive diagnosis was waaaaay off

So at some stage I'll pull the heads and see what's what. Cylinder 1 is obviously stuffed; 2 has similar symptoms but not as bad, 3-6 are ok.

I'm not 100% sure, it's done more than 10,000 but probably less than 20,000?

Major bummer maybe you can't have a 500kw reliable z after all :(

yes if you drive it like an old lady ..

The more power you make (and the harder you drive it) the shorter the life expectancy.

Guys the symptoms (smoke on cold and approx 1L Per 1000k oil consumption) have been there since day one post-rebuild; it hasn't worn out as such. I did bring it up with UAS when I first became aware of the problem and was told that the oil was being consumed by the turbos and that they would fit restrictors to rectify this. This would have been 7 or 8 years ago and if I had know what I do now about engine building etc I would have pressed the issue but at the time I did not.

At this stage I don't want to guess, I'll keep going with teardown and assess from there.

And RGS Performance/Ross Racing harmonic balancer pulley with crank trigger wheel. I've gone with 36-2 configuration which will suit my new link ECU just fine, and a race series balancer rather than metaljacket. The race series has a big piece of vulcanised rubber in place of the AC pulley to better absorb harmonic vibrations, and weighs in at 4.6kg compared to 6.1kg for the metaljacket (street) version.
