Seats look perfect. As you know, they would have been the specs I would have gotten too if I didn't get the ones I did. What's that saying? Great minds have the same taste? :p quality mods mate.

    260z Pics

Found some old film pictures that I scanned in today.

This was my first car and probably where the trouble started. I used to walk past one at the back of school on a fairly regular basis, and when I got my Ps I just had to have one of these.

These ones must have been taken when I first bought the car. Red P's and looks like subdivision is going through in the background so I'm guessing 2001ish.

My mate and I swapped a built L28e into it when we were supposed to be studying for the HSC. Neither of us had any prior experience and it was pretty dodgy in a lot of regards (fuel pump cable tied to the chassis lol) but hey it worked and ran pretty good with a tune from Adam at JEM when they were just a small single unit workshop in Moorebank.

And a quick shot from the subsequent owner that I found stalking the internet

Not a bad first car hey? Lots of shifts at Hoyts to buy this thing! For any parents out there if you think your kids lack work ethic make them buy their own car haha. Although I can appreciate the advances in handling etc we've achieved since the late sixties I still miss the elegant simplicity and raw driving feel of the S30.

    Interior/New Cluster/New coil brackets

OK first up I remembered to snap a quick pic of the seats with some actual daylight on them while we were out at the cruise today. The mats and carpet got a good steam clean a couple of months ago (before the seats went back in) so all looking pretty good at the moment. Pic also shows new pod holders.

Secondly I have a new cluster. I've always thought of 300k/hr speedos as a bit of bullshit, but I'm a sucker for Nismo gear so when OZX_320 had some up for sale I couldn't resist.... I ended up swapping the speedo into my original cluster thinking that while an 89000k odomoter would be good, original mileage would be better.... Also added some Z1 black anodised gauge rings. A little bit fiddly to install but not a bad result.

By a long winded twist of fate that I won't bore you with I've also wound up with a set of chromed ally coil brackets that I got around to installing last night. These guys owed me too much to make selling them a realistic prospect so I figured I'd just put them in my own car. The chrome finish is the best I've seen yet, and being alloy they are 320g lighter per set than the chrome plated OEM brackets that I had in there before.

So yeah, just some small updates at this stage. I should have some bodywork things going on next weekend.

Great upgrades on the interior. Looks factory, which is always a bonus as it means it all ties in together.

    Liking this build thread.
When doing bonnet mods, 5mm sheet Styrofoam is your friend.
Makes a very handy indent gauge.

Cheers Graham -will keep this in mind. All good for now though I'm fitting the new one, albeit in primer, next week.

Need to do something with that steerer Rob. Only thing that lets the interior down now

Hi Mark, these ones are pricey about $3k for the pair. I'm retailing recaro gear now (see link in signature), if you're wanting new set of seats pricing starts around $2200/pair in velour. Send me a pm or follow the link to my Facebook page if you want up check out some options.

    Custom Alloy Bonnet Progress

So today I went and picked up my new custom chopped up bonnet from Gladesville Auto Body Works. It's "finished" enough to leave the shop on the car now, having been blocked and primered and also had the underside painted since I saw it last.

I'm very happy with the end result, it hasn't been the cheapest way to do it but the final fit and finish has been worth the effort, and it's nice to have something that is a genuine one-off that has been made up to suit my car and clear my engine while maintaining the best possible fitment.

The underneath is painted and I'll be adding some black mesh to the vents once the top has been done.

The cuts for the frames have been sealed prior to paint to smooth things out a little. As seen in the previous pics the vents have been chopped into the bonnet and then alloy frames have been tig welded in around the opening.

So yeah all in all pleased with the progress. OEM fit with aftermarket function, and no fibreglass. I was right into the carbon fibre when I bought it, but there were aspects of fitment that were never as good as OEM and I was getting over the look (I'll be 30 this year, I think my tastes are maturing haha). I think this is a nice update! Front bar will be the next thing to get changed out...

Massive fan of what you have done with the bonnet. Well done.

The new front bar will look awesome too. Always thought the UAS front bar with no side skirt option looked weird. The bar looks too low with now sides.

when are you going to put more than 13 degrees of timing into this?

I believe you have a huge amount of power still on the table? what does your tuner think?

Apparently it pings with more timing, the guys (Ben and Mark at MRC) didn't want to push it any further. A few things on the cards as you know, should be a different animal... ;)

Massive fan of the bonnet man, well done. I don't usually like the windscreen vents but this definitely pulls it off, the workmanship is incredible.
