Power steering groaning and overflowing

    Hi all,

Had a perfect power steering system before the TT swap. I have retained the NA pump and resevoir, and was able to massage the NA pipes to allow the intercooler pipes past. I lost most of the power steering fluid and have refilled with Nissan Power Steering Fluid (red), and done the whole "turn raised wheels lock to lock" a few times. Unfortunately now the system is lumpy (easy then hard to turn wheel), and the pump is groaning under load. Also the resvoir level has reduced but is now steady, however the resevoir keeps overflowing.

what is wrong here, is my pump screwed? do I have massive air pockets still in the system? any experience would be great...

    thnx

    Using wrong fluid......

Nissan recommends ATF for 300ZX steering, so I would start by flushing out the system with Dexron ATF and take it from there

Is the fluid all airated? there is probably air in there somewhere. Had the same problem with a truck i just done i just took it for a drive and it slowly got easyer to steer and the noise went away.

hmmm doesnt look airated, has got a little easier but still not great over the past week... have a bunch of Castrol Zmax auto tranny oil (fully synth) left over, might flush the system and refil with this, see if that helps.....

    Solution Found!

So I put the front up on stands, took top off Resi, undid the large nut connecting the PS lines to the rack (with container underneath) and drained all (red) PS fluid. It smelt burned. I moved the wheels (via the wheels not the steering wheel, was easier) full range left to right about 3 dozens times quickly, pumped most fluid out. Then topped up with Castrol Zmax ATF (green). kept moving wheels back and forth till fluid ran green (kept topping up resi). cranked once or twice with fuel fuse pulled to move fluid through pump too. few turns lock to lock again with engine running and wheels still up got rid of last of bubbles. All noises went away, steering is smooth and light again.

    highly recommend, took about 30mins

    Thnx all.

    uuummmmmmmmmm...... sadly no!!!
Still no speedo! pulled speed sensor yesterday, tested with multimeter and seems to work. looks to be a bit of wear around the plastic gear, but its fairly minimal.

But yes getting closer, each piece makes the whole thing feel a bit better :)
