    the piston rings you fried"

    Yep...

Now i just need the mad scientist

Under boost overtaking on the way up to the hunter valley, something went seriously wrong, blue smoke was filling my rear vision mirrors, sounding like a WRX and almost as slow.

Pull over, smoke is pouring out the pipes, pop the hood, smoke pours out, theres oil over everything. Face went a little like this  then went a little more like this

Closer inspection saw the dipstick had been blown out, cylinder 3 (which had been a little weak on a balance test last week) isn't firing at all. Disconnect injector and coil plugs to shut 3 down completely, but oil smoke is coming out like one off those big vents on a coal mine. Theres some terrible valve noise coming from on top of cylinder 3.

There cars back home now, waiting to be attacked by me and the mad scientist...who is yet to be found, but I'll get going till he turns up.

Question: If a piston ring his blown through because of excess pressure in the crank case (is this possible?) of if something has gone wrong with one of the valves, or if I've blown a hole through that piston, and that chamber getting copious amounts of oil in it, would that then get forced out the exhaust valve even tho there would be no compression? Or is it more likely that the pressure build up that blew my dipstick out also blew the oil seals in the turbos? Has enyone blown a pistion ring and what happened?

Had a similar result with my Turbo MX6!

I had cracked a ring and its lands and it was blowing shit into the crank case. Ran like shit and made a mess in the engine bay but I dont rember much smoke. I suppose I was too busy concentrating on getting home, which we did just. Detonation did that and blew the head gasket at the same time.

Sorry to here bro, sorry I dont live closer, or would come play mad scientist. Having minor probs myself ATM, living in the mountains is a pain sometimes, like getting parts. Where in Sydney are you, Andy.

Near Hornsby...My garage is getting rebuilt at the moment

so it's gonna be a street mission. Just gonna pull the top of the engine and see if perhaps it was a valve train problem. I'll let ya know...theres far too much smoke i think for it to be only the rings...especially since theres no combustion in the offending cylinder.
