Just wondering, as I had noticed this stuff on the shelf in supercheep and now 2 people have mentioned it to me

    What is it?
    Does it work?
for WHAT smoking issues can it help?
Is it just snake oil? (ie BS)
    Fill it fk my engine?

Replacing PCV's this week hopefully, but if that doesn't fix my smoke, then I may need a band aid fix until I have more money to burn (quite literally)

Even if it works well enough to go on the cruise and get me to and from interviews etc

but NOT if it's gonna make things worse, or just simply not work at all.

So if you noticed it,what does it say on the bottle??
fckd if i would ever put stuff like that in my engine, bandaid fixes usually lead to a reconstruction lol

Thickens the oil to stop it passing the rings...that's all it does, won't help with PCV's. Interim fix, pull em out and soak in petrol overnight, then put them back in, may loosen them up enough to stop it sucking in oil.

I 'noticed' it and dismissed it just as quickly because I don't believe in "quick cure" stuff. So just assumed it was BS.

All i noted from the bottle was is said it does NOT change oil viscosity

...which left me confused as to how it would work

    cheers bro.

Toms expecting a shipment (to include PCV kit) this week (well today hopefully) so I'll just replace them.

Given my smoke issue is pretty much 100% from the driver side exhaust, am I correct in thinking the PCV on the PASSENGER side would be the culprit? (that is of course if its the PCV at all)

It has to, either that or it raises the flash temp of the oil.

Could be a stuck PCV, although my smoking issues have 100% been turbo seals in the past, my PCV's have allways been good.

    ahhhh the latter makes sense....

so you'd just be pissing oil out of the exhaust then? lol

why is your car smoking... do you have cats.. i wouldnt touch that stuff with a 10 foot pole !

    yes got cats.

    Smoke is burnt oil.

Dont know 100% WHY its smoking, BUT.... the smyptoms and type of smoke match that of a known " Z32 PCV valve" case on youtube
    ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ntFfklW-_s )

Given its the cheepest of all the possibilities to fix, its the first thing to fix in my "process of elimination".

Given the PCV's are the original 20 year old item, good chance they need replacing anyway.

i had the very same symtoms to pcv valves causing smoke, turned out to be valve stem seals instead..

but start with the easiest fix first..

What type of oil are you using? switch your oil to a thicker 15 or 20 might help reduce the smoke. Also have you got an aftermarket exhaust? some systems that don't run a H or X pipe tend to smoke up from one side.

    so that's pretty thick already.

Exhaust im pretty sure is stock up to the cats, where its then 2.5inch with no centre muffler.

So you have a 2.5" cat back system with no centre H or X pipe?
If thats the case then you will get a lot of smoke.

what makes you say having no balance pipe will result in a smokey exhaust?

I'll have a read and also speak to Tom today when I go pick up the PCV kit.

I can understand how not having the balacne pipe would send more smoke to one side than the other, but fail to see how it would be the primary cause of excessive smoke.

But like i said, I'll have read. Still learning.

EDIT: Just read the bulk of that thread, and the post by the aircraft mech sounds convincing.
But even more so is the "proof in the pudding" when the OP had the x-pipe fitted.

    hmmmm.......
