new slicktop

  1. ok so sold my old slicktop with nvz32s long block minus turbos, fuel rail etc which he parted out seperately. paid off debts and purchased a factory slicktop tt (auto) in platinum metallic mist. prior owner was an older fella in his late 50's so the car was in pretty decent nick to begin with, just replaced a few minor bits and bobs like indicators, centre panel, passenger front tyre, rubber rad hoses and stock intake piping for silicone items. recircs are gone- trying to figure out what brand bov was installed. half decent mods included were apexi power intake filter and turbo timer, unknown brand mbc, boost gauge, abflug power superior exhaust (nice rumble and not tinny at all). doing a respray in a few weeks in factory code once i pick up the new hatch. going brazilian. replacing tweed with a full leather interior (if deal goes thru) has touch screen dvd player and custom parcel shelf with 6x9s mounted, parcel shelf folds up for access to boot. interior was actually in very very good condition- no tears in drivers seat bolster or anything. all electrics work fine including cruise and air con, minus cluster problem of course. rolling on stock rims atm with 1 brand new tyre and the other 3 virtually brand new-98% tread. hicas works mint-no leaks. overall actually really happy with the purchase sans speedo issue that makes steering heavy sometimes. car pulls hard on 10psi and auto box hasnt skipped a beat yet surprisingly. would eventually like to do the manual conversion but will most likely sell it or swap for a manual tt. hardest job i have on this car is switching the hatch glass from old one to new one. will be posting pics today once the sky clears up a bit. was stripping back paint on hatch and bonnet for the spray so some parts are dull, others are mint. body is straight with obvious stone chips in front bar etc but we all know a 25 year paint job shouldn't be perfect. thanks for reading will post pics and hopefully a video of the exhaust and engine running :br:

  2. update: repaired cracked solders in cluster and polished the clear cover of the cluster only to find the cleaner has left immovable marks, so wet sanded with 2000 and couple of coats of clear later and almost perfect. plenum pulled for powder coating and coolant bypass being done while i wait for gaskets etc. replacing injectors that i stuffed by not being gentle on 25 year old perished plastic. installing new boost gauge upon arrival and replacing all vacuum lines and hose thru out the bay. replacing hatch in a fortnight with a brazilian. coming together slowly but surely. all the pics ive been taking are being uploaded to photobucket

Now, compared to the old car you were trying to do miracles with this one is much closer to the mark. Good to see that common sense prevailed, although I would still have liked that old engine from the black slick top.
Looking forward to seeing you on the road in the near future.

  4. thanks mate well funny thing is the old slicktop was pretty much done, bay was sprayed and nvz32's old donk was dropped in and whole interior was replaced with velour items then i crashed my gf's car and had to sell it to pay to get her car fixed. yeah this one is very tidy body wise and interior wise, just coming across a few minor issues with injectors and coils atm.

If your stuck I have spare injectors and coils from a TT.

  6. might grab 2 injectors off of you, im good for coils bought 6 last week. how much are you chasing for them? doesnt matter if they need new o-rings or pintle caps as im sending them down to pennyarvs for servicing etc

  7. minor update: pulled plenum and replacing 2 injectors and 3 coil packs as they are getting past their used by date. plenum has been ceramic coated as has the balance tube. clear coated the throttle cover i purchased of rollin (wrinkle paint). waiting for injectors to arrive atm. pennyarvs will be flow matching and servicing the injectors. gaskets have arrived. coil pack connectors have been replaced. vacuum lines will be along shortly. hopefully picking up usdm spec 8.5inch stockies sometime this week. cheers

  10. plenum is back on. need to replace 7-8 inches of fuel line i had to cut. happy with the ceramic paint, now to replace the silicon piping with powder coated black hardpipes from z1. looks a lot cleaner in person but still happy with the outcome

I'm confused, I thought you sold this car

  12. yeah sold it to my cousin but because of the recent rain up here in qld hes been unable to pick it up. and while it was raining i decided to do a plenum pull and now the car wont run so he cant pick it up without towing at my cost. so the plan for now until its running again is just leave it be until karl (90ttz) can have a look on monday and if its running again the car will be gone for about a month or so

  13. booyah peoples the zed runs perfect now!!! no more misses, no more chasing idle. i feel like a whole new woman. still cant figure out the no spark issue (fixed itself) replaced dodgy undersized fuel filter with chrome oem goodness and the zed chrome bracket, replaced all vacuum and fuel lines courtesy of rob260 thank you sir. runs mint even in heavy traffic every day to and from the gold coast. now to get started on the body work. got 10m x 1.52m gloss black 3m vinyl wrap thats been sitting for a few months waiting. have an ls1 with a cracked manifold on the way and now to look for a donor shell (targa 2+0) for the ls1 while the slicktop stays my daily drive. will update when ive had the ls1 looked at

curious why you want the ls1 in the targa rather than the slicky? i'd think by your name that you were more keen on the slicktop and in my opinion the ls1 is the preferred motor just thought you'd put the 2 together but it is your cars so you can do what you like ;p

  15. decided it was best to keep the slicktop as is being factory tt. and the sound of an ls combined with targa off driving is too good to pass up. if i could get another slicktop shell i would use it, but im liking the idea of a targa top zed

  18. nah going to hold on to it for a while, got some plans and orders to finalize. should be quite the street prowler if all goes to plan. kumho ku36's since you can get 16's and hopefully an r33 gtr brake upgrade soon. prepped my new hatch for the vinyl wrap and when i get time ill start on the front bar repairs and prep. took my nan for a little squirt today :br: was a little too wet so didnt give it much really. and then after the slicktop mods will be the 2+0 targa ls1 hopefully. ls1 will be lightly tuned, nothing special. quite a few motors getting around for under 1k.

  19. tried my hand at vinyl wrapping today. pain in the arse. did gloss black. thought maybe doing a nice flat surface like the roof wouldnt be so hard, i was wrong. need min 2 people for sure. came out alright tho. will post pics in the morning.
