A good trick a mate learnt when it comes to "foreign " stickers on imports, is to always ask a foreigner .

lol not a foreigner - well I guess I am a kiwi but..- I went off the R12 (the gas in our AC) and the weights specified look about right for a regas.

yep, I agree.. the R12 sticker makes sense now.. I might have to find a Japanese wife and train her to work on Zeds

How's you beast coming along Stu?

    Update:
Today I'll be attempting to change the coilpack connectors and also the injector connectors. If anyone is bored today and wants to give me a hand your more than welcome to :)

The car is running fine.. I'm only noticing a small vibration undr my seat when she's cold and seems to disappear when normal operating temp is reached. My guess work thinks of the drive shaft, center bearings or even my 8 year old tyres that now seem to be cracking ridiculously.
The Hicus light has flashed at me once since the last time and I've also had the catalytic over temp come on once also. Other than that, no major concerns to report

Nothing new so far. Been lazy last few weekends and just enjoying family time. But been constantly kicking myself for not getting stuck in. Lack of funding no never helps but should be sorting the rear bumper soon

mate, if you need a hand just yell out :) I'd be happy to help.

Update.. Ive been trying to calculate just how many k's I get on a full tank only to discover that from time to time my trip meter sticks... that is, it wont spin.. sometimes i can flick the trip meter rod that sticks out from the cluster and it will begin to spin again but lately that wont even help :(
consequently if the trip meter doesnt turn then neither does the odometer so now I'm thinking just exactly how many k's should there be on this car and how long has this problem been around. It seems to sort itself out after say.. 6 to 15 k's then it will spin again..
Does anyone have a solution to this? can I dismantle the cluster and clean it out or would I need to replace the trip meter?

depends what is wrong with it - if its a drysolder joint then its a case of finding the problem and correcting it, if it is a problem with the tripo, it could be a cog in it then it may be limited to just the tripo and not so fixable. but yes the unit could be replaced although probably easier to replace the whole speedo or cluster

There is a "how to" to fix the trip/odometer in the tech section.

Cheers mate, found the pdf :)

I did initially think it would be grit or dirt on the gears because everything else works and the times that I've caught it not spinning I'd flick the trip reset stick and it sometimes would make it spin again.

Will be tackling this on my next days off.

The funny thing about this is that even though it sticks occasionally I've still managed to record 231kms to a half tank :)

Update... wanted to start work on the coilpack and injector connectors and luckliy I didnt get stuck into it as just before I wanted to start I received a friendly calll from the boss asking me to attend an emergency for water corp :(:D so looks like I have to wait till i have a couple days off or just wait for the tech day I hope to hold in the near future

Best move going, is replacing the coil and injector connectors. I'm glad I did mine as one of the first jobs.
Check the ECU coolant temp connector as this can cause starting problems if its a bad connection.

Yep mate. I actually have 4 extra injector connectors that I plan on using. Thank to Ian for the hook up. The ecu coolant temp is one of them. Just trying to find the time to do it is a problem and have the Zed as a daily doesn't help either

    Gone but not forgotten.

So I write this post with mixed emotions today...
I'm sad to say the car has gone back to its previous owner on Good Friday.

The story is, I was paying the car off and had made a deal with the owner to have it completely paid by March 20th. I Kept my side of the deal with money waiting for him but there was one major discrepancy that halted the deal being finalised. You see, the Previous owner happens to be my daughters Grandpa. When I first saw the car and agreed to purchase it, the vehicle contained the original log books and owners manual. When I went to pick up the vehicle the books had disappeared  ..and thats when the story telling began...

I heard all sorts of stories from the mechanic taking it, to the spray painters taking it and even thou I proved to him that the vehicle had not seen either from the time of agreement till the time of picking up (less than 800km) he still changed the story.. all throu-out the months he insisted that if I wasn't happy that he will return the money, pay what I have spent and take back the car. I asked him on several occasions to go to the kmart tyre shop where he had changed over the mag rims to the originals to see if they had it by accident but he never did.

These log books had caused much tension between our families as my daughter also remembers the books and we all felt that gramps was being dodgy -again-
So the story telling went on till the last week of the deal where he said that he doesnt remember ever having the log books or ever seeing them :W:
I distinctly recall showing him the log books myself when trying to locate a record of the timming belt being serviced but he played dumb and said he didnt remember..
The final straw for me was when he then accused me of stealing the books.

I told him instead of coming over to pick up the final payment, he can bring the money back and take his car back. I've never disrespected any family members before, but that night I lost the plot.

So the car has gone back, maybe I'll see it again in my daughters hands as that was the original plan for that car. She was to receive it on her 18th, a present from the grandparents. ...if it does, at least she knows I'll help her with it.
I want to thank all those who have helped me with this vehicle and I do appreciate all the talks and advice you have all shared with me.. you all know who you are.

But... I am also right now a little excited, for I have found another.
From what I've been reading and speaking to the owner over the last few days (even risking being fired for mobile use on site ) this vehicle seems to be the jackpot.
So one story has ended and unlike most movies.... the sequel will be much much better.

best of luck buddy...... I believe he is getting a far better car back than he gave you. at least a lot of basic stuff has been done now

My point exactly mate. I was not present when he gave back my money to my folks and he still managed to convince my family that I owed him money for the cost of swapping his mag rims ( which was supposed to be in the original deal ) to the factory rims. I charged him an extra $500 for the work I did, which is a fair price considering the car was in much better condition. In the end I got back $380 extra.

I've cut my losses with it now and moving on...

Good luck with it all. I dont mean to be offensive or anything but what is wo important about log books that u had to have. My zed is an import amd didnt have any lov books which to me means nothing anyways the moment i brought the car my log books started from there. Maybe i was lucky, i just think getting all tension between families over a log book seems a little silly to me.

No offense taken mate. My point is that all books were present when I agreed to purchase the vehicle and in a matter of under 800kms the books vanished. The log books had all history of servicing and even original owner in Tokyo details, it even had an extra page stapled in because it ran out of room for the service history records and also the owners manual. For me, the car is worth more or is more valuable with its history intact. If for example you had two identical cars and one had service/log books and manual I'm sure you would take the vehicle with the documentation.
The other factor for me was his dishonesty. The constant changing of stories and denial until his last option was to accuse me of stealing it. i would rather not deal with someone who proves to be a conniving bastard, no matter how much I loved the car. Sometimes you just have to put your foot down and say enough is enough.

Yes he is family.. which makes this all the much sadder, but at least I know now where my daughters mother gets it from...lol.

besides.. I will be owning a much more beautiful and respected Zed shortly.. one that I know your familiar with.. from a more reputable owner. :zlove:
