Oh yes, it goes in there rather well it would seem. Make up some engine mount wedges, rear gearbox mounting, totally re-design the sump and there you have it, a V8 Zed! And because that was so easy you keep going with a nice big turbo install It has been going on for quite a while now with a dummy motor and plenty of trial fits and rooting around with clearances, but will hopefully be getting closer to slotting in the brand new LS2 which will make things VERY interesting. If you were spending time working out ways to give your Zed a 6 speed then this is one of the ways of achieving it! :zlove:
Dry sump=even more hideous hoses, pipes and pumps in the engine bay. Street car so no need to do that.
Twin Turbo it please! I would have liked to see twin turbo's on that engine!! P.S. Can you change the steering rack without removing the engine? P.P.S Nice to see someone has some spare time. Well done!
Good luck Would be thrilled to see a Twin Turbo LS2 in a Z. I hope you have detailed plans of the sump and mounting aragements
Electronics ? Are you going to run aftermarket ecu or factory ? Are you going to try to hack the gauges or run a refitted dash with am gauges ? Is it engineer certifiable in Queensland ?
Drool!!! Awesome work Brad! I just love the thought of a V8Z! I know I'm out on a limb here but I just love the sound of a V8 and a supercharger! More pics and updates please! And is that a second Zed or your black beauty? Cheers Geoff
Wowee!! Awesome work Brad. Great initiative on your part. Please post your detailed process with photos if you're able to, i'm sure MANY people here would like to know how you went about it all. Once again, I take my hat off to you! :zlove:
3 vg30s sitting on the bench and now you have gone 4 the ls2 CRAZY !!! . will be awesome man . pure sex . ls2 tho be a man LS7
Well done Brad They do fit suprisingly well. engine mount position the same, though we needed some majorly heavy duty mounts..the torque ripped brand new Nissan mounts in half and Even the shifter comes up through the floor in the right spot. What have you done with the firewall Brad ? The engine harness was one of the trickier bits, the Zed was sent to a specialist in Goulburn for that part. The DriftZ has had her V8 for 9 months now, we had a few issues to sort but its all pretty sweet now. Engines out at the moment getting new heads and cams and hopefully the 8 throttle body setup will be fitted at the same time... I know lots don't agree with putting a holden engine into a Zed but it has been such an interesting learning curve for me and the sound of her when you turn the key never fails to turn heads and raise a smile. Please keep us up to date with progress
i thought u just bought 3 vg30dett engines and were aiming to build them to 5 or 600 hp and use those?? keep us posted
also would the 6speed gearbox fit in the Z?? you would only need to modify the tailshaft and mounts provided it did fit??
It fits with some massaging. Alot of inlines maybe.... I had thoughts of doing this a while back. What turbo /s are you planning on going with?
Efficiency of feeding each seperate cylinder bank with one turbo only goes so far, when you also put it in full perspective of how much more difficult a twin turbo setup is in comparison taking into account all of the plumbing required, intercooling, space and cost of two turbos and so on. If spool time isn't an issue and you want big power, single turbo all the way imo until you start talking about 100k+ fully drag prepped monsters running twins. There are fast mustangs with only single turbo setups, I wouldn't exactly call 8 second 1/4 miles silly anyway which was my point. I dont expect any of you to appreciate the badassness of single turbo setups being TT's and all! hehe
the reason most inliners go big single is that the cost involved in twins is very involved especially if there was originally a sequential setup like the last of the supras nice work brad, keeping that one quiet, whos car? theres actually a half chassis z32 running a big block on the WA drag circuit if anyones looking for an NA fibreglass front clip.. haha
