Hi guys just wanting some info or help if anyone does LS conversions ?I have a 1990 300zxtt 2+2 . Cheers
There was a forumite that was going to supply conversion kits for ls1's. He even ran a poll on 5 speed option vs six speed (from memory) not that long ago. Haven't heard anymore from his posts for a little while and sorry but cannot remember who it was. A good search or with some luck another forumite will know / remember the posts and guide you there, he seemed to be progressing and was at the time confident of doing these I tried a search but could not narrow it down - soz Maybe your searching is better than mine
what info are you chasing? gearbox options? engine mounts? modified sump for clearance? im seriously going to consider the ls option aswell.
Thanks guys ive been quoted for the whole conversion by some top mechanics like proflow performance the price for conversion is around 15k - 20k which is really good.In U.S.A it's really popular for the 300zxtt with the LS motors.I love my 300zxtt but with a v8 that's something really different not bagging the vg30dett motor just that I'm a v8 lover but I won't part with my Zxtt.My 300zxtt was owned by a ex chairman of aus300zx club, his forum name was angrybear but he has passed away may he R.I.P.cheers
That was me developing the RHD LS conversion. It's still in development, around 60% there but due to the demand of many Z owners needing other repairs, engine rebuilds and tuning and it has been put on the back burner. I'm hoping to get some traction on this soon and have something by the end of the year. Here is the thread SuperZ was talking about
Here is a link to the conversion I did if you have any questions just send me a pm http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=315549
Hi mate thanks for the link, really impressed with the LS conversion. Can I call you to talk about my conversion. This is my mob.no 0408872733, or you can pm me your contact no. Cheers mate.
These V8 Z's are - bloody awesome Very nice Z brewskie ! :bow2: Totally agree the sound of a V8 and the shape of a Z combined gives the best of both worlds I have been waiting for others to pave the way with the LS1 given the large job required and it seems now that quite a few Z's with LS1's have been done making it easier to follow now Is there anywhere that you know of, where one can find a list in terms of what is required by way of major modifications to do this and the engineering requirements to get it passed ?e.g. firewall needs to be moved back X inches or transmission tunnel needs to be widened etc / what is required to make it compliant such as pollution controls/ are larger brakes needed. Reason is that I don't even know what, if any of this is required to get it compliant having not even seen one V8 Z in real life and can imagine there would be lots of customised mods needed to make it happen, but I have no idea what mods would be needed other than what I can pick up in build threads with LS1's and that's very scattered Its great that people like you / lysergic and others here are setting the benchmark and making it easy for others to follow Keen to head this way myself - really need a thread specifically for a list of what's required to do it as information is scattered everywhere when it comes to a LS1 in a Z. Seems different LS1 Z's have their own unique hassles to get them compliant for the engineers certficates, to the extent that you need to get the right engineer to start with - do you agree with this or find it very standardised regardless? Anyway - Love your Z and all the other V8 Z's - bloody awesome! Regards JC
I went through the build links and got the answers I needed. (need to read more in the build links in future) Some great stuff in there! The only question remaining is how much does it cost to transplant an LS1 in a Z Approximately Need more V8 Z's and the more the better :zlove:
I just did a rough tally of all the things I purchased for mine (just for conversion) and I'm close to $4k, not including the engine. Keep in mind that I didn't buy kit so most of my install was fabricated either by myself or local engineering shops. I could be done a bit cheaper if I didn't use Aeroflow fittings and hoses and also used the factory radiator. If you are looking to go cheaper, and you can handle an Auto, using the holden box on the back of an ls1 would considerably cut down costs. If I were to do this again that is the way I would go.
