Hello, people in the forums. Recently had bought my z and not sure if the oil pressure gauge is reading incorrectly or that there is something actually wrong but when in a cold start, oil pressure is at roughly halfway between the first bar and the second bar but not at 4. On full throttle as the rpm gains, it maxes out around 4 or a bit above. After the engine is hot, oil pressure still idles around the same as a cold start. I have heard that these gauges read incorrectly but would like to clarify things I could do to check. Any help would be greatly appreciated and ask away questions.
    Thanks DJ

The stock pressure sender is junk and when they get old or depending on oil type they will read incorrectly.

Assume you've already checked your oil level and make sure it's not under filled or over filled?

With correct oil level, take off the stock oil pressure sender, put a mechanical gauge in its place and check pressure at idle and under throttle.

To avoid confusion, the image above was from someone who noticed a drop in oil pressure readings, normal should read around 2(idle) - 4(driving) when up to operating temp

Okay, thank you for the information that yous have given. Will have a go at putting a mechanical oil pressure gauge.

I think i have worked out the culprit of the low oil pressure. By my understandings, it must be a bad headgasket since it is blowing white steamy smoke from the exhaust and also one side seems to be blowing more than the otherside. There isn't any other noticable changes but the oil pressure stays low after the engine warms up. Under full throttle it does get up to half way but still comes down to low amount. I need the forums help on whether or not to take the heads off while having the engine in the car or take the engine out which will cost a lot more labour charge? Is it possible to take the heads off while completely having engine in even if it means taking a while to do and any guides since this is my first time working on a VG30? Any help will be appreceiated.

Re your oil pressure issue -have you checked oil pressure as described in the link I sent? What PSI was your workshop gauge showing at idle and at 3000rpm?

Re head gasket I can’t see the pics on my IOS browser but suggest performing a TK test and leakdown test before tearing into the motor.

The image depicts condensation from the exhaust which is normal.
rob260 has supplied the information on checking the oil pressure.
The sensible thing to do would be to verify what the oil pressure is using an accurate gauge BEFORE developing additional theories.
What viscosity oil are you using?

    Hi @SomeBlondeDJ

    1. I have posted one of your pics. You need to right click the image on imgur and "copy image address". Then paste this address between IMG tags in your post. Image tags work with the "direct image address" which may be different to what is displayed in your browser.

    2. Please resize pics before posting here -it's fricken huge and will display poorly for those of us on laptops, mobile browsers etc. There is a HOW TO pinned in the "forum discussion" section. 640x480 is a good size.

    3. Doesn't look like head gasket.

Hi, i have read your replies and tried to take into consideration on the things yous have said. Im sorry about the way i had posted the photos, next time i will remember how to attach the images properly. To answer some of the questions, i havent done any checking of oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. I also dont know the engine oil or the viscosity oil in the engine as i only recently had bought the car. Tommorow i will be checking oil pressure, then draining and changing oil and checking oil pressure again. Whats the correct oil that should be in there? I am still concerned as the exhaust still blows white smoke even after its been warmed up. It is condensation like steam but cant smell any kind of coolant and also feels just like normal water. Ill be checking everything tommorow and ill update you. I have attactched some links of the vids of the smoke coming out of the exhaust.

    Thanks DJ

    Looks like condensation to me.
If it was smoke from burning oil, it would have a blue tinge to it.
Does the exhaust system have a crossover pipe, or is it two separate systems?

    What viscosity oil to use?
It is determined by the anticipated ambient temperature the vehicle is to be operated under.
This is defined in the Nissan workshop manual.

Hi @East Coast Z i dont think it is burning oil either but i still have a feeling of it burning a slight amount of coolant due to the in car gauge still moving to four under thtrottle. No it does not crossover as it is stock exhaust apart from muffler/tips. The left side blows more white smoke when idle hence why the left side is more cleaner/steam cleaned inside. On throttle it blows equally to me. I dont have any kind of workshop manual or any kind of manual as the car came with pre much nothing.

Send me your email address via PM & I'll send you a Workshop Manual.
Do you know what month in 1995 your Z was built?
If not include the VIN in the email.

The low oil pressure concern now seems to be expanding to include a coolant problem.

Are you sure your Z is a 1995 model?

As far as i knw it should be a 1995 but not 100% sure. ill send you deatails.

    pmac Z,, IT'S COMPLICATED!!!!!

The 1995 model did not have a factory boost gauge and had an air bag fitted steering wheel, which yours dose not.

Just to chime in, I suggest you diagnose one thing at a time.

As Rob mentioned check the oil pressure using a gauge, (to eliminate any issues on that side of things) before addressing the white smoke.
