    Hey,

Ever since my transmission oil was changed it has been leaking onto my exhaust and burning :( At first we thought that it might have been over filled, but it's been going on a little too long for that. Ideas?

It's the stock 5-speed manual box and it's running Redline Lightweight Shockproof oil...

I believe that this oil can foam a bit and come out the breather.

EDIT: Might be a stuffed breather, see Tekkies post below. Apparently some cars leak and some don't.

    I don't have a hoist :( I have a jack, will that do? lol

If it is the breather how do I fix it? I saw reference to a "breather hose"...

Don't jack from the radiator support.

Don't get under a car with out a secondary support, ie stands and a jack.

Don't use bricks they have a nasty habit of crumbling.

Sorry but the "I have a jack, will that do?" sounded ominous.

lol, it was meant to sound ominous... I know you need to use axle stands or something similar. I tend to use pavers. They're much more solid than bricks, and tend not to crumble because they're not hollowed out :)

find where it's leaking out from.

redline shockproof has a way of finding its way through shagged 20 year old seals and i experienced this first hand. when the box heated up it would leak out the front and the back, smoke pouring out from under the car from the exhaust evaporating the fluid which sounds like what you're experiencing.

unfortunately if this is the case it's tranny out for new seals.

    Sounds about right :(

How much for new seals? Where would I get them from?

Well you can increase the height of the breather. Push a tube onto the hook end and drag the end up high into the engine bay, Put a little filter on it.

    That should do it.

    Vaccuum hose? EFI hose?

I am replacing my clutch today and also using lightweight shockproof, and have had enough of flames and smoke from under my car thanks very much   :zlove:

I shall now be able to attend Aidan's Tech Day tommorrow :) So hopefully we can track down what's causing it then ^_^ Thanks everyone for your input and advice :)

P.S. Thanks for the diagram Vadar but... which actual part is it that is the 'rear main seal'?

Fuel hose should be good enough. There is No pressure in it.

Thanks Graham, I had a 500mm length of vaccuum hose and it did the job nicely. Tied the other end up near the fuel hard lines (near the filter) with a cable tie.

Just called the Nissan Dealer to order this part in preparation for Aidan's Tech Day (silly me turned up last Saturday...) Anyway, they said that there is no "Rear main seal" for the gearbox, only on the engine. Which part should I be asking for?
