    Hey guys,
how do you remove the bell housing on a z32 gearbox?

is it as easy as undo the bolts and it comes off?
    Cheers

As seen in another thread, so i pinched the link.

Generally you have to take the bolts off the rear housing, at which you need to take the speed sensor out and other components so it doesnt get caught. Once that is off, you then need to remove the snout bolts(inside the bell)

Do that carefully as there is normally a washer and a shim, do not loose them nor mix the order up upon reassembly. after this you will see a internal circlip to which you need to remove. sometimes these bend, and need replacing. if thats the case be sure to get the correct thickness.

there should be also a circlip and maybe a shim for the counter shaft too, so careful with that.

iirc, after all that is done its a matter of just splitting it from the sandwich plate (the bearing carrier in the middle)

Its a messy job and if inexperienced you can make it rather hard to put back together....in saying that if you take your time, and remember what goes where its ok.

Done quiet a few dato boxes. So there may be a variation for the 300zx box but overall the same applies. someone will correct me.

Also pay attention to the above link. Try and get a hainze work manual or something as they have general run downs of the procedure.

Workshop manual gives a good rundown too.

true, factory workshop manuals are good. but some of the hainze types are better as they're slightly more understandable.

unlike my above sentence structure. heh.
