Gday everyone I hope all is well I am new to this forum but have been a proud owner of my Nissan 300zx 1990 model for over 10 years + I wanted to ask or get advise here from members on how I would go about registering my 300zx under Historical rego as this isn’t my daily drive and would love to save on registration costs. I have picked up a Historic registration form from my local RMS here in NSW and their are some specific details about “club details” Any info would help thanks again and look forward to future chats
I was wondering the same about my newly acquired 300zx, but what stumped me is the conditions that you must only use the vehicle for club events and some other very specific purposes, that don't include general driving. Do people just ignore those conditions/are they not enforced by police and/or transport department?
In victoria if you are a club member, your allowed to drive 45 days per year up to 90 days per year. For 45 days per year, costs are $104, for 90 days per year costs are $180, plus you must have club plates, these plates are red on white and easily spotted. There is no mention of only being allowed to drive your classic car at club events only, that I can find, but you must have a logbook and keep it up to date. Im not sure if nsw laws are the same.
In QLD the rules say that you must only drive during club events, to/from mechanic and you're allowed to drive within 30km from garaged address for road testing/maintenance. But they explicitly say that doing grocery shopping and other general purpose use doesn't constitute a valid use. not sure if QLD has club plates and i haven't seen any mentions of logbooks from checking NSW transport website, it seems more or less similar to QLD
My Z is on historic registration and I'm a member of the Z Car Club of NSW. The club registration fee is $60/yr and the RMS registration fee is around $60 as well. Each yr, the car has to undergo the usual pink slip inspection, the historic vehicle form (sent to you by RMS via mail) has to be completed by you and both of these documents are sent to the club where they are also further completed by a club representative and then mailed back to you to take to the RMS. Also, photos of the vehicle have to be sent to the club each yr at registration time via email, to inspect for modifications, interior and exterior. (There's rules for modifications). At the RMS, you choose 'registration renewal' and at the counter you give them the documents, pay the fee and if it's the first time, they will give you the plates and will also issue a log book. This log book gets replaced each yr with a new one at RMS in person. You'll have to make sure the 'old book' is brought with you and submitted to RMS so that it's discarded. The log book has to be completed each and every time the vehicle is used and there's a certain amount of times it can be used per yr, I forgot now, but it's plenty for a historic vehicle. The car can used at club events and however you like as long as the logbook is filled in 'CORRECTLY' but limited by the number of total uses per yr. If the logbook isn't filled in correctly and you get pulled over by the police for inspection, it's a big fine I've been told, like 'not registered vehicle' type of fine. I know it sounds like a lot but once it's done a few times, its nothing really.
