Heard lots of good and bad things about HICAS, when selling my NA I'm looking at getting a TT and thinking whats the advantages about having it vs not having it?
if the hicas is out due 2 suspension allignment, steering wheel, or electric fault it has caused more than a few accidents! be carefull! i removed mine .. na gear is great!
You need to reroute a high pressure hose. Other than that its just a few bolts. Although i havent done mine yet.
HICAS is likely to have caused outbreaks of unwanted pregnancy, herpes, decaying teeth, and running late for work, but I have never seen one single solid bit of evidence of it ever causing accidents. It's bloody easy, and much more acceptable, to blame a lack of driving skill(resulting in a prang) on some piece of mechanical wizardry, rather than accept blame. There may be some small amount of genuine opinion as to whether HICAS is a help or hindrance on a Z32 used in serious Track/Racing applications, but it is speculative at best, and simply personal choice in most cases. The Z32 was Nissan's flagship for 9 years on the world market. Does anyone really imagine that this vehicle could be carrying around a ticking time bomb(just waiting to kill or maim it's innocent user) for that length of time, without Nissan being forced to recall every vehicle? Or, do some people believe it was Japan's way of getting even, after losing the WWII?
Its amazing that none of the car journalists had a prang during their spirited runs through the twisties. And with all that "play" in the rear end and a "mind of its own" they still say its one of the top 10 sports cars in the world....
Name one mechanical part on any aging vehicle, that is NOT possibly going to give problems due to a lack of regular maintenance. Using your theory, every component of your Z32 should be replaced immediately.
I actually like the hicas on very fast twisties. At first took abit of getting used to it but now i love it :zlove: Regards Trev
I can tell you right now that it can and has. The HICAS on my car almost put me into the wall on the freeway @ 80-90 kmh and I strongly believe it would have had I not just been at karting and hopped up on adrenaline still. The car was operating fine, but then the HICAS started playing up and as speed increased it dialed in more and more angle in the rear to the point i was going sideways down the freeway. I began to slow down of course (which is why i was going 80-90 hmh in 100 zone) at which point the HICAS went back to normal operation by snapping back to the central position which of course added with the fact my steering wasn't straight due to countering the rear angle added, flicked me towards the wall. Only symptoms prior to this were the occasional heavy steering experienced by many owners. It was pulled out two weeks later. (Wasn't driven in the mean time)
What subsequent inspection/investigation of the car, showed this to be factual(as opposed to supposition)? What was shown to have actually caused this event? What regular maintenance schedule was carried out on the HICAS in your car?
Good - When overtaking - High speed twisties Bad - When you lose traction and countersteer to correct it (rear wheels turn opposite way you want them if only by a couple of degrees, makes it harder to catch) - Takes up weight Ive got a lock bar for my zed, will get round to installing it eventually... lots of threads about Pros vs Cons i suggest searching
Its all relative there are pros and cons of doing both. Neither is bad, just different. Im chasing to firm up the suspension. That why im removing it.
I'm with Chrispy. Would have been one of the 100 solenoids that controls it. I like sideways anyways so I'm better off with it gone imho. Full NA PS conversion so lose complication and weight.
