Due to popular response to making a very long "how do i" post about getting my engine back into my car lol. I have decided to ask,

how do i get my bloody plenum off! I've been following the tech articles but i cant seem to get the plenum off. I have taken alot of bolts off directly from the top. But still it wont budge and by budge i mean trying to lift it off with a engine crane using the bolts on the side.

Below are pictures of it atm, and YES i HAVE taken out the two bolts in the middle, i had them in their when i was lifting it from the floor to the engine stand. If someone could draw, explain what i am missing... much appreciarted.

IM doing a coolant bypass if you wanna know what im doing.

This is what i have so far (sorry about the quality of the pictures they were taken from my phone)

well for a starters i think i can still see bolts in the middle of the plenum (other than the 2 in the middle). there is a special bolt which has a funny head that another bolt can screw into. you must remove all the long bolts.

there should be around 12 i believe

make sure you've removed all them

then provided the egr tubes are detached, you should be able to wiggle the plenum a bit.

there are a few water hoses which can be very brittle and will prevent you removing the plenum. make sure these are all out

and your pcv tubes are still attached also
i can see the passenger side one at least
you may have to cut them as they become hard

and btw dont use the engine crane to lift the plenum again.

if it requires that much force then you are doing something wrong and you will break the plenum

it can be easily removed by hand if all the bolts etc are removed

    That is true

I just went and took them out :D

Woot now i have the plenum off!

Now to remove the coolant hoses and by pass them behind the block.

Also, the engine is oily as a oil rig! How can i clean her up :zlove: I have some grease removal that i used on my engine bay, any harm in using that on the blobk, mainly near the lower plennum and extractors were.

She needs a good clean up.

    Some more pics to come

Big thanks to Sim300 for his help :D

Any other things i need to do while i have the plenum off?

    You pulled

the engine to do the bypass? I love it. Other things you might look at doing if needed, replace any connectors that look green or in the least bit dodgy, clean the plenum and the throttle bodies, replace the pcv's, port match upper to lower plenum, get your injectors flow tested and cleaned, just to start ya off.

When you say clean the plenum and the throttle bodies, did you mean clean them with a brush and some de-greaser?
I need to replace the PCV's as ihave not done this yet, where can they be bought?
What do you mean by port match upper with lower plennum?
I forgot about my injectors, are the buggers with the red top on them once you remove the metal casing that covers them?

Thanks for the pointers beaver, much appreciated

Remove TPS so as not to drown it and clean plenum with degreaser, wash out the runners and dry thoroughly.

OEM from Caz along with PCV hose kit. Aftermarket are also available.
What do you mean by port match upper with lower plennum?
    Google port-matching

Injectors sit alongside sparkplugs, reddish brown tops, no metal covers.

    After a few hours work.
Removed plenum, completed coolant bypass, removed AIV's, removed old extractors and sat the new ones in place for some photo shoots :zlove:
(Very nice GB Tom,well worth the $$$ imo)

Here are some pics, its coming along slowly, ALOT of work still to do.

    Suggestion

Unless you have semi-pro assistance, leave port-matching and injector removing off the agenda.

Yeah might be a good idea, i dont think ill see much power increase in a N.A with cleaning the injectors anyway will i?

Thanks for your advice beaver and k-zed.
My 'to-do' kist just grew yet AGAIN

    thanks guys lol

    Another suggestion

If you have somewhere there where you can get the injectors cleaned in the fuel rail just take the rails out and leave the injectors in the rail. That's what I did and even as a complete n00b I didn't manage to stuff it up. :D
