Hi Guys, I need some help with my nissan 300zx- i love my car to death and i know its not as much quick as most of your rides are but i still love it. It was my dream car, i some time see the Catalytic warning light coming up for like few seconds and lats for some times a min and than disappears. I have checked the exhasuts and took it to the local mechanics who check it and everything seems to be ok. It drives good as well no over heating no dramas there, but i might need an expert advise to see this problem doesnt develop later on. I do feel that when i am in P and the engine is on it does vibrate and rev a bit higher than usual. I dont know what that can be - might be something to do with the timing or new spark plugs ?? Does anyone know a good Nissan 300zx mechanic near parramatta area who can have a look at my car and charges decent. I dont have a lot of money as i just got married and had to fight with my folks for this car( they wanted me to sell it)...any help would be appreciated. Thanks Dante
I have the same problem with my light coming on. For me I think its due to one oxygen sensor not working properly, causing excess fuel to run through the cats and heat them up. This also means fuel consumption is not great, so if your fuel is going really fast I would assume you have the same problem. When I change my O2s hopefully the light will stop coming on. But, according to what i've read that light does also just start to play up for no reason. As your light does not stay on constantly this may be the case. Best thing to do would be to get someone to plug their laptop into your car and see if everything is working properly with ecutalk or something. Hopefully some members near you would do this for you without charging. After that you can see if anything needs fixing.
Firstly, the Cat Warning Light will come on from time to time, IF the engine is running a slightly 'rich' Air/Fuel ratio(the light simply indicates that the temperature inside the Cat has risen to a higher than normal level due to the burning-off of excess fuel). If this only happens occasionally, it is not of great concern(but can be checked by an engine tuner/mechanic). Spiro at Autotech Engineering, 18 George St. Granville. 9897 1378 is very experienced and trustworthy(but, like most things in Life, you get what you pay for). "Bargains" generally aren't(my car is still running faultlessly 7+ years after a rebuild by Spiro). It is normal for an 'Auto' to drop rpm slightly when placed 'in gear'(or conversely, increase rpm slightly when placed in 'Neutral/Park'). Welcome to this forum!!:zlove::zlove::br:
when you say it vibrates when not in gear, does it seem to vibrate when driving/accelerating? Do you know if you are running on all six? Had the problem as well and it was my injector connectors or even one of the coil pack connectors that became lose or dodgy. try checking the connections and see if it runs/idles smoother. running on five would also lead to excess fuel going through the cats and causing the cat light to come on when it's too hot.

Danai -it doesnt vibrate when driving it drives well. But when am in P it just Hums like a beast man..dont know if that is normal. I use to have z31- 5oth Annviersay before this and it was sound like a pin. I get really paranoid about my car some times will take it to the mechanics to check if its running on all 6
