If you don't get someone to represent you, prepare to get cocked up the ass twice as hard as what you already will. Magistrates like to see the public using the legal system because it gives their fellow soon to be magistrates work. They were once barristers/lawyers as well and it's only the truth. If I was in your situation, I would sell parts of my car / get a loan and pay for someone to represent you because it will pay off in the long run.
He should get free legal aid, paying someone is not going to lessen the severity off the fine or the suspension period. I should no
'Cocked up the arse' hahahaha.... Great saying! Haven't heard that one before. ... a friend went to court and the cop that booked / charged him didn't turn up. The magistrate told him how serious the charges were and he needed legal representation and the post poned the court date. If the cop doesn't turn up you can get the charges dropped! Not to say they won't attempt to try and summons you again... but if he had legal representation he may have gotten off on a technicality. Just a thought. You owe it to yourself to cover as much of your arse as possible... up to you if you tell your parents and friends, my gut feeling is not to... deal with what comes and move on... just hope they don't read the paper when your case comes up. Might be hard to explain why you always catch the bus now.
Actually, you are wrong there, paying someone actually almost guarantees that your fine/charges will be less even if what they say is exactly what you would have said. Speak to any of the top barristers/magistrates around and they will tell you that's just the way it is. If you work in/with the legal system, you should know that!
Before I start I do not condone what Trav did in any way shape or form but do commend him on having the balls to post it here and come under fire from the whole of the aus300zx forum community about his mistake. He knows it was a mistake and no doubt will learn his lesson. AK I think you are a little harsh in some of your comments. Have you never driven even 1 kilometer over the speed limit, run that stop sign without completely stopping, failed to give way to traffic already in the roundabout. I highly doubt it, and these above scenarios are all decisions that would be made in a fully aware conscious state. I guess the morale to my post is that everyone makes mistakes yourself included so have your say and voice your opinion but bear in mind your own comments as with everyones will be open to scrutiny so keep the personal insulteous comments to yourself mate. Keep it clean keep it real. The drink driving slogan is IF YOU DRINK AND DRIVE YOU ARE A BLOODY IDIOT
Good call, you cant alienate someone on one very silly mistake, because we all do it! Mafi knows what he did was wrong, by sharing his mistake with the community he is educating others how easy a small descion on a whim can have dyablotical consequences. Well done Mafi
I agree 100% with what your saying method, i have had a lot of run ins with the law in quite a few different countries , none for drink driving, and none in victoria though, and under no circumstance would i go to court without prior legal advice and representation in court, Judges do not like people representing themselves
and you are correct about the speed issue, jason .. we all have done it .. and so to the speed slogan, also .. "EVERY K OVER IS A KILLER .."..... not a pretty thought ...
100% spot on. There are a lot of people on this forum (not just Trav) who could really learn from this.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune mafi, hope things go okay for you and thanks for sharing your experience even in the face of forum scrutiny. Glad you have learned from your mistakes and i look forward to seeing progress of ur zed rebuilding to be better than before :zlove:
at the bare minimum i'll get free representation provided by the courts.. i really just cant afford to scrape up 3-4 grand for a lawyer within the next 2-3 months..
