my friend has a very well maintained silver 300zx 92 TT with 103,000ks with very good service history and immaculate interior, if i get the money in time he will sell it to me for cheap.

but my real question is after driving a gts-4 and a 300zx i loved the handling from one the feel from the other and i thought is it possible to chuck the rb20det and also convert the 300 to AWD? i was thinking gtr engine but that would add too much weight.

labour costs nothing for me as family members work on Z's so anyone got rough costs in how much the conversion will cost, keep in mind id sell the engine for around $2500 and any suggestions/opinions

    -cheers, cam

I don't know why you would want to downgrade the Z power plant.

The 300ZX is heavier than the R32 so the large reduction in power and torque would be very noticeable. Also the inclusion of AWD would not be practical and would destroy the dynamics of the Zeds handling. Nissan initially intended the AWD system for the 300ZX but due to weight and the problem with trying to maintain the low ride height of the Zed caused it to be abandoned in favour of a RWD layout.

I think you would be disappointed by the end result.

    i see your point

i was also thinking about an rb25 though form the r33 gts-4 and i would be upping the boost wanting around 250rwkw.

    stick with what you have

250rwkw isnt very hard to achieve on a reasonably maintained 300zx.

    Dyno List

Have a look at some of the cars on that dyno list, the listed mods etc. Not alot is required for that sort of power HOWEVER, with that power it also means that you need to do other work to the car in regards to handling and braking. This is where I beleive a lot of people fail, they up the power but dont remember to upgrade handling/braking to control the power.

    its wet up here

thanks thats helpful indeed and i am swinging more towards handling and braking upgrades on vg30dett

main want for a AWD 300zx, A) i live in a wet part of the adelaide hills, with many dirt tracks :D, heavy 300zx with awd traction is what i wanted b) uniqueness c) althought AWD, rb20/25 gts-4 are much easier to maintain.

id like this to become a big thread so any more suggestions and or references to ppl who might have done an rb conversion is much appreciated

    With all those dirt tracks

wouldn't you be better off with a 4WD? Zeds are kind of low for that sort of terrain.

meh, allrounder best of both worlds

lol, i know its a bit low i dont mind raising it a tad and im keeping stock bodykit. its often wet up here even during summer and the roads are tight s bend heaven. although i spend alot of time down in the city, ill soon be travelling home almost everyday (40k there and back)

i have a budget of 25k labour free, but i guess an AWD handling zx that can also look hot in the city seems out of the questions :( dont kill my hope!

    AndyMac Better than you

If you were dead set on a awd zed wouldn't

the rb26dett be a better option for the project?
