Going to have to pull out of the cruise i think.. i drove the Z back today, lacks a bit of power, definately a bit dodgy with the clutch, the gearbox makes a few noises and is in bad need of a good service and tune... this thing is definately not up to cruising condition....

I drove from Geelong to Apollo Bay via Forest then back from Apollo Bay thru Lorne this arvo. Road is fine all the way only slight hold up is two sets of construction site traffic lights between Apollo Bay and Lorne as there are a few rock slides and a heap of schoolies putting along. Not saying that this is the exact route as i know last years was only some of this but just a report on the general area ?.

    1/
Backup date ....... First Sunday in Febuary
This will only be used if the weather turns extreamly bad.
Notification will be posted on Saturday Morning of the cancelation should the weather be bad enough to effect the safety of those attending.

    2/
Start will be Todd Rd servo for the Melbourne crew with a 8.30am departure time ( suggest you get there by 8.00ish)
NB: This is the START TIME, not the time to get out of bed !!

    3/
Bendigo crew to meet up at the BP servo on the Melbourne Geelong road as we did last year.... around 9.00ish should be fine.

    4/
Melb crew and Bendigo crew to fuel up at the BP servo on the Melbourne Geelong road, this will see enough fuel for the entire run back to Geelong.

    5/
Geelong crew will meet at the Z Shed 66 Denbigh street Moolap then heading to the Geelong bypass -> Ceres turn off..
Assembly will then be at the Ceres school parking area.

    :D

    6/
I have 2 routes organised, one is very much dependant on VicRoads Works in the area, its near completion but may not be ready for us, a phonecall on Friday will determine the final choice of the run

    7/
Due to a couple of members wishing to stay overnight along the GOR, the run will be in a similar direction as last years, inland run first then coast run.

    8/
Anglesea will be the "return home" point, this will allow those that wish to back track or continue on to bid farewell to the main group.

    9/
    Lunch....
2 locations are up for choice, again due to roadworks this will be chosen on the day

    10/
This is NOT A RACE...... we will NOT be on a race track.
Heavy police numbers are in Lorne and the area due to schoolies week.
You play, then expect to pay

Spoke to my dad on the weekend and they have cops hiding in the hills and a few other places because of schoolies. You won't know where they are till you get caught.
I found this out the hard way once while overtaking on double lines somewhere along the GOR. Cops were hiding up in the hills, the guy that pulled me over pointed them out. Even knowing where they were it was hard to spot them.

    Guys,

Thanks for all the info. Here's hoping the weather holds out. Should be a good run. I'm bringing a mate who is moving to Melbourne from Sydney - should be a great experience for him as he's never been on the Great Ocean Road.

The Zed goes back to the mechanic tomorrow. After the 100K service it just keeps stalling when it idles - traffic lights going around a corner off throttle etc. Starts up fine but just keeps stalling. Having not owned a Zed before, I'm guessing loose coil pack or a vacuum leak. Either way, it went to the mechanics running fine and that's how I expect to get it back.

Regardless of whether that gets fixed tomorrow, I'll be on the GOR run.

Hope they sorted out for you. If not, I'm sure there will be enough expertise on the cruise to fix it on the spot :D
Got mine booked in for a wheel alignment for Friday, fingers crossed nothing else breaks. Been riding to reduce the risk of things going wrong, that and the fact I can't wind my window up
Replacement window motor will hopefully arrive tomorrow.

Should have mentioned this in my other post. Check your IAA is hooked up. It's on the passanger side at the back on the plenum. Can be tricky to get to.
Have a look at "Idle Air Adjustment unit replacement" in the tech section. It shows what the unit looks like and the two injector style plugs and kind of shows where it is. My guess is they either didn't clip them on properly on didn't clip them on at all.
I'll try to take a photo of my spare engine tonight to show where it is. Should only take you a couple of minutes to suss out. Save you going back to the mechanic (who might take all day to find it).

    Hmmm Dontex time...!

Sounds like you need to start taking it to Dontex Auto' ...Joe there has been looking after mine for a couple of years now (and a few other's on the forum) and really knows Zed's.
He's in Vermont and I'll quiet happily keep using him even though I'm in Frankston Sth, just for the piece of mind!

    Thanks for the tips guys!

    See you on Sunday.

One other thing...... Are we lining up the Zeds anywhere for photos during the run? I'd like to take as many photos as I can with the SLR. Happy to share all the high res photos that I do take with other forum members. I'll post on photobucket for anyone to download if that's ok.

(Rain rain go away come again another day.....)

    Cheers.

I won't be making it, my exhaust system for the MR2 is still in freight in a plane over the ocean somewhere and I'm still in the process of sorting out an ECU to control my engine upgrades, so it isn't driveable at the moment unfortunately. Hope the weather isn't too miserable, and that the extra cop factor doesn't prove to be a pain in the butt for anyone.

Looks like some rain on Sunday! That's not gonna stop me. I will however post a question in the tech section of the forum to find out how to switch on the all-wheel-drive in a Zed. Is there a button for it somewhere? I can't find it.

By the way it was raining on the way home tonight there won't be any left to drop out of the sky by the weekend.
