Thank you to Col and Mark for organising a nice social event! Great weather for a drive (except for the rain on the way home), when not blocked by slow traffic the GOR was fantastic as always :)

Thank Will for the photos, great to see them come up so quickly!

Yes it was a great day weather wise for cruising. Got some annoying traffic on the way up but and the pack got separated but we all managed to make ti to Apollo bay safe and sound.

Thanks again Col and Mark for organising and running the cruise today, you guys managed very well considering the unknown traffic conditions on the day.

Ill post up my photos and my summary of the day tomorrow, I'm burnt to a crisp and cant stop drinking water atm:(.

    Bloody Awesome Cruise...

Ditto' ...great Cruise Col & Mark.
Good to see some of the old Crew there as well as meeting some new faces.
    Keeps the Z community alive.
Traffic was a bit of a pain but gave the opportunity to create some space and then smile like an idiot as my Zed quickly gobbled it up again lol!
Great Day and a bonus going to the Saturday market at Apollo Bay.
Looking forward to the next one... is it Goldfields?

    BigCol That's what she said...

Thanks to all for attending - it was a good day.

Like others have said both here and on Facebook, sometimes when you try new things it re-inforces why you have not done them previously, and we'll look to address this moving forward.

Firstly we got nailed by the weather. Hot days in Jan-Feb-Mar turns the GOR into a carpark and nothing can be done about that, although I recall ordering 25 degrees and sunny!

The GOR really needs to run pre-Christmas. There is just too much traffic after Dec 25, and none of them know how to drive remotely close to the posted speed limit or how to use a slow vehicle turn out, although it seems Tekky did his best to provide some education!

But the most important factor for me was the later departure time. It made making Apollo Bay for lunch at a reasonable time pretty much impossible. Given the later start didn't provide the boost in numbers we hoped for, We should consider a departure time around 8:30-9am. People who want to make the GOR cruise will always make the effort regardless of start time.

On a positive, running it on a Saturday seemed to work well, as the traffic would be just as bad down the GOR today and likely much worse on the trip back into Melb tonight if we had gone today.

For me there were three highlights from the day - seeing RedZedMikey attending the GOR in a zed he owns for the first time in 6 or so years, catching up with familiar faces and meeting new ones, and the calamari cone Mark and I had for lunch (delicious - thanks buddy!)

EDIT: Also apologies to Mikey - I didn't see your lunchtime text message until Lorne on the way home.

    thanks big col and mark

Yes thanks to you and Mark for a great day. As you stated above, yes it had its challenges re the traffic but it kept our driving skill up to avoid some of the slower drivers from killing us trying to over take them. That was fun at times. Sorry again to Alex.I cut it to fine on the freeway, he knows what i mean. Cheers Bigmax.

Heres my recap of the day's highlights.

Keeping with tradition the pre cruise meeting point was of course Todd Rd Servo which turned out to be harder to get to then normal due to road closures around the Servo which I eventually overcome to make it and then park my pride and joy along side the Z pack.

As time went by more and more Z's started gathering as they do on a GOR cruise.

The stand out of the crowd this year I think goes to Andrew (kr4usy) with his nice bright green or yellow colored temporary wheels.:zlove:

After a short briefing from Col and Mark, we headed off to our first stop at Avalon BP servo for a short rest shop and to stock up on supplies for the big drive ahead. I got to drive along side a beautiful Audi R8 for a few seconds before I let him zoom off up the freeway.

After avalon, we headed to Torquay to meet the Geelong crew at Point Danger, unfortunately things didn't really go to plan and when we made a turn to go to Torquay, I waited for the rear pack to arrive, but after 10-15mins of waiting their was no sign of them.

Figuring we would lose the front pack if we didn't proceed to Torquay, me a small group of Z's, continued to point danger where we found Col and the Geelong crew waiting in the car park. Before I could notify Col what had happened, we headed off on our long drive to Apollo Bay.

The sun was shining and the roads up to Lorne were mostly clear of traffic but when we hit the center of town in Lorne, the traffic was bummer to bummer and the GOR was also congested with small pockets fo traffic which slow our progress to Apollo Bay by quite a bit. But we eventually made it to Apollo Bay and even with a big Seafood festival on we all managed to still park in our tradition hangout spot like every GOR before this one.

We all had lunch and got some decent socializing time in before people started to leave for home. The drive home was pretty much the same as on the way Apollo Bay, I was stuck behind Robbo who was stuck behind a Holden wagon driver who wouldn't turn into the any of the slow vehicle turnoff area's which pissed rob off a few times lol. Then came the massive heavy downpour of rain heading out of Geelong. Visibility was so bad everyone was doing 60 on the freeway and I felt so bad for all the members who I knew were driving home with their Targa's off.

    Great Day guys,

Thanks for arranging Bog Col and Mark, as you have stated, better arranging outside the summer period and earlier to avoid the traffic, although still had a great time especially when the roads opened up or there were opportunities to floor it past slow vehicles. Sorry I ad to leave early as the wife was busting and when we returned only Adam and Shaun were at the car park.

Looking forward to the next event.

had a great day , thanks to the boys for organizing it ,

its all good big max ,
i was pissed of because i had my wife and son in the car , and i smashed the brakes on so hard that the abs kicked in on the freeway .
may pay a little more attention when someone is right next to you , and you decide to throw your car in that lane.
no harm done luckily , but a little to close for comfort ..

    anyway .

does anyone have any picks of that black bmw , that was hot

Thanks Col & Mark for organising it..It's great fun driving in such a big group and taking over the roads with zeds everywhere :D

We had fun trying to meet at Todd Road lol...Over the westgate, stupid detour, couldn't figure out how to get to the servo..so back over the westgate again LOL...turned around and back over it again for attempt number 2..still had trouble as the detours were literally all around the area and there was no way to literally get in there without breaking one rule..so that rule was broken and we got there late dammit! Would have been early if it wasn't for the stupid detours!!

Anyway apart from that saga..had a great time :) I think we did lose a few zeds though on the way, which was unfortunate :(

Did anyone end up counting how many zeds attended in the end? I only counted 16 at Apollo Bay..but I know there was more..

Man that rain on the M1 on the way home was INSANE!!! Then I got a message from Jimmy (airton) saying "Wanna know something funny, my roof is off..refreshing":eek::eek:
Thankfully, I don't know how but despite that downpour the inside actually didn't get that wet...I'm actually amazed!!! So that's somewhat reassuring if I ever get caught one day..

Anyway, we will hopefully have some photos up tonight :)
