Col is it worth considering bypassing Torquay altogether & just having the meet point in Anglesea?
Your right, bypass is the way to go hands down (save approx 20min using it) but you'd then have to double back at the round about on Anglesea road to get to Torquay.
With Anglesea you can either all pull over single file on the side of the road opposite shell servo (yes 98 available) or park at the main beach carpark, unless its a 40 degree day in which case everywheres packed... Just a thought.

On a side note the roadworks just outside anglesea are almost complete, in fact with a bit of luck the 60 zone will be gone by this weekend so with a bit of luck no delays & the loose stone should be well & truely gone come cruise time.

cheers, Tim

Actually, that's a REALLY good idea! The only reason for Torquay was originally chosen was it was a good open area for car parking and a good half way point to Lavers Hill. There is also lots of it at Anglesea. So yeah, no real reason to go there any more!

What about all of the Smoo to perv on at Torquay. The point of a drive is the scenery right? LOL

By using the Geelong bypass one does not HAVE to miss Torquay. The turn off at Waurn Ponds can take you out towards Anglesea or a couple of minutes detour through Grovedale and onto the Torquay road . . . .

Wait a minute . . . why am I complaining . . . I LIVE in Geelong. I can just smash down the Torquay highway anyways and still get a perv in at the Torquay babes. And lets face it . . . thats at least 25% of the reason for owning a Zed. LOL

Have you ever tried navigating 30+ cars through high numbers of traffic lights? Going the route you suggested would be difficult as it is not well sign-posted between princes highway and Torquay road as to our final destination - which is especially difficult as there wiill be some attending that have no familiarity of the area.

The worst part of the GOR cruise has always been getting people through Geelong and making sure nobody got left behind. And to make things worse nobody ever obays the cruise rules - keep the car behind you in your mirrors at all times, and flash your high beams at the car in front to get them to slow down etc. But people would rather think of a cruise as a race and tear off leaving their fellow forum members stuck at the lights behind.

And there is nothing that says we can't use Torquay as a stopping point on the way back, though. Kingy & I will discuss this and organise a route. It will be much easier next year to get to Torquay when Mt Moriac road reconstruction between Anglesea & Torquay roads is finished.

Um . . . the Torquay comment was a joke spurred on by perving on women. I thought it read that way. LOL. I dont think anyone cares if we go through Torquay or not. . . . heh.

up to you....

thats up to the individual I guess. If you need to get back by a certain time, then you may have to leave early. As a guide, at the last GOR cruise, I got back to my house at about 7pm. I'm on the west of the city, so people out east obviously need to travel further. The cruise is quite long.

17. WYKKED

WYKKED 2 Much Trouble

You know you can leave early and head back on your own Rod.

Last year was especially long as we went to Port Campbell, plus had the time waiting at the helicopter flight place. Here's hoping that we don't drive quite as far this time, but that is entirely up to Kingy as cruise director.

Everyone knows the GOR is a long day of driving & catching up with mates. Kingy has given plenty of notice for people to get themselves together and organise to free up their schedules and have their cars prepared.

If you still need to be back by a certain time, then either leave early or don't attend. Only you can make that decision.

yeah i know peter...
but it's always more fun cruising home with the pack :)

yeah no worries.
if you guys got home at 7pm last time i will definitely leave earlier.
i'll set tom tom up and drive until it says i will get back to the city at 5pm if i turn around and will leave then :)

man im going to be ruined but i dont want to miss this.

what ever time this starts > city by 5pm to drop off gf > work 8pm-6am > wake up at 11am > another car cruise to marysville > home by 5pm > work 8pm-6am :eek::eek:

for the love of these cars.
