Hi, i have a fuel smell upon start up and until warm.

I have checked all hoses and while i have repleaced most, the remainder (1 or 2 seem ok for the moment and dont leak.

The smell of fuel is detecable with the bonnet closed and exhausting between the bonnet and windscreen, thats when i first smell it upon exiting the drivers seat.

I have smelt the exhaust and whilst smelling exhausty there is not an overly strong fuel smell as the car would be on rich anyway and seems normal?

The fuel smell is strongest directly above the plenum with my nose right above it. Both i and the mechanic have conducted a visual inspection with torches and there is no evidence of any running fuel remants or wet areas.

The car runs great and on the very odd occasion has missed a beat and even then only for a second.

I did a search but didnt really find an answer. My injectors apparently bench/flow tested back in 04/05, approx 65k ago.

So im thinking a leaking injector? Maybe a crumbling o-ring?

Any constructive diagnosis would be appreciated.

Its definitely not the small fuel hose that goes down at a 45 degree angle, just right next to the engine cover rear hex screw ? Mine leaks every winter when its cold. I've got worm drive clamp on it which tend to loosen up a little as it cyles through hot/col.

you maybe on to it with the o ring on an injector worth checking from what you are describing.

All you can really do to find out is clamp off your fuel lines in (then out) whilst testing pressure - that will confirm a leak between the regulator and inlet lines.

Above the plenum sounds like it is your injector o- rings or seats for sure - but you would normally get more than a missing beat, it is possible that it is very minor.

Given that you test flowed your injectors recently - it is quite possible that there is a seal problem - did you replace the seating seals or reuse them?
The O-Rings if not inserted correctly will show up as the injectors will not sit or look flush so I assume that this part wouldve been done correct.
If your confident your regulator - fuel lines and damper are not leaking then do the test. If the test shows there is loss then pull the plenum then sit butchers paper around the injectors and pressurise with the pump several times - this will show you where the problem is - you have to use new seats and o-rings if you remove any parts respective

    Thanks for the responses.

I will check all hoses again and feel the i should do a pressure test to check and see.
