I am in the process of sourcing from Japan a 300ZX TT, with the prices they sell for over there it should be easy enough to find one in decent nick with some added goodies at a reasonable price.

The plan at this stage is to import one with a CAMS licence to be used as a race car, but all I want is the engine for my road car. So I want to split the cost with someone who wants a rolling shell (including everything but engine and possibly computer).

Obviously if someone wants say a 2 seater slicktop, or 4 seater targa, or specific parts or whatever, then all of this can be worked out as the car hasn't been bought yet. Obviously because this car is not subject to the standard import laws it could be a later model as well.

If anyone would be interested please contact me and we can work something out.

    You will need someone......>>

With a CAMS level 3 licence (or higher), and I'm pretty sure there are other restrictions on the car once it is imported.

    hmm

I've actually been thinking about sourcing a shell for a V8 transplant but I'd want it as a road car, otherwise I'd probably consider an FD RX7... plus a new career to be able to afford racing it. :)

Is your engine stuffed or is it just the turbo(s)?

If all you need is a motor why don't you do a deal

with a firm that sells front cuts. When I bought mine I told them the parts I did not need and I got it for $2000 less. Unless you plan on trying to get the motor for say around $1000 or less after you flog off all the other stuff, I don't think it would be worth the hassel.

    My 2 cents...

My engine is fine... in fact very strong

I was just considering the fact that you can buy fairly cheaply a heavily modified zed from Jap, and then pilage the parts for your road car. I was considering the amount of money required to make my zed "fully sick" with turbos, cams, injectors etc it wouldn' take long to cost me a fortune, so I want to bring in an engine. I think it actually works out cheaper to bring in a full car and strip the engine and sell the shell than to just buy the engine.

What costs are you looking at?

How much will the car be and how much does it cost to get it over here? I imported under the 15 year rule so I was wondering if importing for race use incurred similar costs or is it more expensive?

I might be interested if the price is right.

Fate - I am seriously considering not selling, it is a hard decision to make, and you of all people should know that. If the right offer came along for my car then it selling it is still a possibility, but so far despite much interest it is proving to be a PITA, and I am lazy. I am just assessing my options at this stage, this was one of them, hence EOI.

Bishnoff - Cost would be subject to your requirements, my requirements are that the car has a well built engine with some nice turbos, cams, etc. For example if you required a 96 model 4 seater with leather then that would cost more than a 91 model 2 seater without, so you need to know what you want then we can have a look at costs. As for comparing to previous imports under the 15 year rule, the market in Japan died in the ass when we stopped our 15 year imports and prices dropped considerably, and you are not going to be putting it one the road so no compliance or on roads, shipping is about the same.

    Sounds very tempting

I'd be after an early model 2 seater slicktop TT. I don't care what age it is, but the cheaper the better and I imagine that later models will cost more. If we can save money on a crappy interior & no cosmetic mods then I'd be even more happy. It's going to be for race use so I'll be lightening it as much as possible anyway. I already have a spare engine & transmission so it works out well. If you find some possible candidate cars please send me the info.
